Remote Process Engineer From Home information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Process Engineer from home, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Process Engineer, you need a strong background in engineering principles, process optimization, and problem-solving, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in engineering. Familiarity with process simulation software (such as Aspen HYSYS or AutoCAD), data analysis tools, and remote collaboration platforms is often required. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and time management are vital soft skills for succeeding in a remote environment. These competencies ensure efficient process improvements, effective virtual teamwork, and the ability to deliver results independently.

The Remote Process Engineer From Home focuses on optimizing manufacturing processes remotely, often involving data analysis and process design. In contrast, the Remote Manufacturing Technician handles equipment maintenance and troubleshooting from home, requiring more technical hands-on skills. Both roles are industry-specific and utilize remote communication tools, but they differ in daily tasks and required expertise.

What are some common challenges Remote Process Engineers face when collaborating with on-site teams, and how can they overcome them?

Remote Process Engineers often encounter challenges such as time zone differences, limited access to physical equipment, and communication gaps with on-site teams. Overcoming these hurdles involves establishing clear communication channels, scheduling regular check-ins, and leveraging digital collaboration tools like video conferencing and shared documentation platforms. Building strong relationships with on-site personnel and proactively requesting visual data or real-time feedback also help ensure smooth project execution and alignment.

What is a Remote Process Engineer and what do they do?

A Remote Process Engineer is a professional who designs, analyzes, and optimizes processes in industries such as manufacturing, chemical, or energy, but works from a remote location rather than onsite. Their responsibilities include improving efficiency, ensuring safety compliance, implementing new technologies, and troubleshooting process issues using digital tools. They collaborate with teams through virtual meetings, data analysis software, and remote monitoring systems to optimize operations. Working from home, they rely on strong communication skills and technical expertise to deliver results without being physically present at the worksite.

Job description

Government Employees Health Association, Inc. (G.E.H.A) is a nonprofit member association that provides health and dental benefits that millions of federal employees and retirees, military retirees and their families have counted on since 1937. Offering one of the largest health and dental benefit provider networks available to federal employees in the United States, G.E.H.A empowers health and wellness by meeting its members where they are, when they need care.

G.E.H.A has one mission: To empower federal workers to be healthy and well.

We're hiring a Process Orchestration Engineer to design, build, and support integrations and automated workflows across our enterprise. This is a mid level role intended for someone who already brings solid technical fundamentals-especially scripting and SDLC experience-and is eager to deepen their skills in enterprise automation and orchestration.
This is not a traditional application development position. The focus of this role is integration driven scripting and workflow orchestration, with scripts executing within and alongside Control M job streams. You'll partner closely with IT, data, and business teams, and take ownership of automation that keeps critical processes running.
We're looking for someone who is hungry to learn, asks thoughtful questions, and wants to grow into deeper system level ownership.SKILLS

Integration & Automation Engineering

  • Design and implement automated workflows that connect systems, data, and teams
  • Design, build, and maintain scripts (Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.) that integrate systems, data, and services
  • Integrate scripts into ControlM job streams, including dependencies, scheduling logic, and failure handling
  • Work with APIs, files, and structured data formats (JSON, XML) to support systemtosystem automation

Orchestration & Systems Ownership

  • Own and evolve G.E.H.A's orchestration platforms (Control-M on-prem and SaaS)
  • Learn and apply enterprise jobscheduling and orchestration patterns
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data and process flows across systems and improve reliability over time

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to map and optimize business processes
  • Partner with technical and nontechnical stakeholders to understand process needs and translate them into automated solutions
  • Contribute to workflow documentation, runbooks, and support materials
  • Learn and apply enterprise jobscheduling and orchestration patterns
  • Monitor job streams, analyze failures, and implement improvements to resiliency and observability
  • Provide mentoring and support to internal teams as needed
  • Maintain on-prem software and services as required
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support mission-critical systems

Who You Are

  • A midlevel engineer with practical scripting and delivery experience
  • Comfortable working within an SDLC, including version control and deployment processes
  • Able to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across teams
  • Naturally curious, you want to understand how and why systems work, not just that they do
  • Excited by the idea of making complex systems simpler and smarter
  • Willing to ask questions, seek feedback, and continuously improve your technical depth

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in a technical role (development, automation, operations, integration, or similar)
  • Strong scripting skills in at least one language (Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
  • Practical experience working within an SDLC (requirements, testing, deployments, version control)
  • Familiarity with APIs, web services, and data formats such as JSON and XML
  • Working knowledge of Git and modern development workflows
  • Exposure to cloud or hybrid data platforms (Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Snowflake, Databricks)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with job scheduling or orchestration platforms (ControlM, Airflow, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps pipelines and CI/CD concepts
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices and with security best practices
  • Experience in regulated or enterprise environments (healthcare, insurance, finance)

Work-at-home requirements

  • Must have the ability to provide a non-cellular High Speed Internet Service such as Fiber, DSL, or cable Modems for a home office.

  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 30x5 (30mpbs download x 5mpbs upload) is required.

  • Latency (ping) response time lower than 80 ms

  • Hotspots, satellite and wireless internet service is NOT allowed for this role.

  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

How we value you

  • Competitive pay/salary ranges

  • Incentive plan

  • Health/Vision/Dental benefits effective day one

  • 401(k) retirement plan: company match - dollar for dollar up to 4% employee contribution (pretax or Roth options) plus a 6% annual company contribution

  • Robust employee well-being program

  • Paid Time Off

  • Personal Community Enrichment Time

  • Company-provided Basic Life and AD&D

  • Company-provided Short-Term & Long-Term Disability

  • Tuition Assistance Program
