Remote Pre Commissioning Engineer information

What is a remote pre commissioning engineer?

A Remote Pre Commissioning Engineer is a specialist responsible for preparing, inspecting, and testing systems or equipment before they are officially commissioned and put into operation, often working remotely via digital tools. Their tasks include overseeing installation, conducting pre-commissioning checks such as flushing, pressure testing, and verifying safety systems, and ensuring compliance with project specifications. By working remotely, they provide guidance, troubleshooting, and validation through virtual collaboration, supporting on-site teams to ensure readiness and safety before project handover.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote pre commissioning engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Pre Commissioning Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical, electrical, or process engineering, often supported by a relevant engineering degree and experience in commissioning or pre-commissioning activities. Familiarity with commissioning management software, industry standards (such as API, ASME, IEC), and safety certifications like OSHA or NEBOSH is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and attention to detail are crucial soft skills for coordinating with remote teams and troubleshooting issues. These competencies ensure safe, efficient project start-ups and help maintain quality and compliance in complex engineering environments.

How does a remote pre commissioning engineer typically coordinate with on-site teams to ensure successful system start-up?

As a Remote Pre Commissioning Engineer, effective collaboration with on-site personnel is critical to ensure all systems are tested and ready for commissioning. This often involves daily virtual meetings, sharing detailed checklists, and providing real-time troubleshooting support via video calls or remote monitoring tools. Clear documentation and regular progress updates are key to maintaining alignment across time zones and locations. By fostering strong communication channels, remote engineers help identify and resolve issues quickly, ensuring project milestones are met efficiently.

What is the difference between Remote Pre Commissioning Engineer vs Remote Commissioning Engineer?

AspectRemote Pre Commissioning EngineerRemote Commissioning Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires engineering degree and certifications in pre commissioning processesRequires similar engineering background, often with additional certifications in commissioning
Work EnvironmentPrepares systems and equipment remotely, often before full system startupOversees and tests systems remotely during startup and operation phases
Industry UsageCommon in industries like oil & gas, power, and industrial plants during initial setupUsed during system startup, testing, and operational commissioning phases

The main difference is that a Remote Pre Commissioning Engineer focuses on preparing systems remotely before full commissioning, while a Remote Commissioning Engineer oversees the actual startup and testing remotely. If so, you'll thrive in Nutanix's collaborative team environment focused on supporting DOD/US Army federal clients, where you can make a meaningful impact by working closely with account executives and contributing to innovative solutions that address complex challenges in the government sector.

About the Team

The Sr. Federal Pre-Sales / Systems Engineer will join the Systems Engineering team at Nutanix, based primarily in the southeastern United States, with a strong presence in the DC metro area. This team is dedicated to delivering innovative cloud solutions to federal customers, leveraging collaboration and technical expertise to drive successful outcomes. The culture within the team is one of support and cooperation, emphasizing shared responsibility and continuous learning. The team's mission is to foster strong relationships with account executives and customers, ensuring that they meet the evolving needs of the federal sector effectively.

You will report to the Dylan Schoneweis, Manager of Systems Engineering Sales, who is committed to a collaborative leadership style that prioritizes team member engagement and hands-on experience. This approach encourages open communication and empowers team members to actively participate in customer interactions. The work setup for this role is 100% remote, allowing flexibility in where you work without any mandatory in-office attendance.

This position requires approximately 50% to 60% travel, primarily within the southeastern United States, including key regions such as Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and the DC metro area. The travel will involve visiting prospects and existing customers, necessitating flexibility and a willingness to mobilize frequently in support of customer engagements.

Your Role

  • Collaborate with account executives to strategize and execute customer engagement plans.
  • Support technical aspects of the sales process by providing detailed product insights and solutions.
  • Travel approximately 50-60% of the time to meet with prospects and existing federal customers.
  • Engage in customer meetings to understand needs and address technical issues promptly.

  • Develop strong relationships with customers and support them through the procurement and acquisition processes.
  • Contribute to the expansion of existing accounts and the acquisition of new customers within the assigned territory.
  • Track customer incidents and communicate insights to ensure satisfied service delivery and support.

What You Will Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in presales and systems engineering, preferably in the federal sector.
  • Strong knowledge of public cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and server virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Nutanix).
  • Excellent sales and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with account executives.
  • Understanding of procurement and acquisition processes, particularly within the Department of Defense (DOD) and federal environment.
  • Technical proficiency in systems engineering or sales engineering.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50-60% within the southeastern United States.
  • Experience in customer engagement and relationship building to support sales efforts.
  • Emotional intelligence and adaptability to effectively address customer needs.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 195,920 and USD $ 293,880 per year.

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors. Our application deadline is 40 days from the date of posting. In good faith, the posting may be removed prior to this date if the position is filled or extended in good faith.
