Remote Powertrain Engineer information

What is a remote powertrain engineer?

A Remote Powertrain Engineer is a specialized engineer who designs, develops, and optimizes vehicle powertrain systems—such as engines, transmissions, and electric drivetrains—while working remotely from a location outside the traditional office or laboratory setting. They use advanced software tools to collaborate with teams, analyze data, and run simulations to improve vehicle performance, efficiency, and compliance with regulations. This role typically involves close coordination with other engineering and manufacturing teams, as well as staying up to date with emerging automotive technologies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote powertrain engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Powertrain Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or automotive engineering, with expertise in powertrain systems, and typically a bachelor's degree or higher. Proficiency with CAD software, simulation tools like MATLAB/Simulink, and familiarity with industry standards are crucial, and certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) can be advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective remote communication skills help you excel in collaborating with distributed teams. These skills ensure the successful design, analysis, and optimization of powertrain components while maintaining productivity and quality in a remote work environment.

How does working remotely as a powertrain engineer affect collaboration with cross-functional teams?

As a remote Powertrain Engineer, effective collaboration is often facilitated through digital platforms such as video conferencing, project management tools, and collaborative CAD software. While you may not be physically present in the lab or test facility, you'll regularly interact with other engineers, designers, and project managers to review designs, troubleshoot issues, and track project progress. Clear communication and proactive scheduling of virtual meetings are essential to ensure alignment, especially when coordinating with on-site teams for testing or validation activities. Remote roles may also require more documentation and frequent updates to keep everyone informed and projects on track.

The Alteryx Engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle of analytics automation and data integration solutions, including requirements analysis, design, development, deployment, and operational support. This role builds and supports scalable data workflows, applications, and integrations that power reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost modeling, and enterprise analytics.

This position works within a cross-functional Agile team and interacts with multiple platforms, data sources, and cloud services to ensure solutions are secure, reliable, well-governed, and aligned with architectural and quality standards. The role also contributes to data governance, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement efforts and may also support additional engineering, automation, or data initiatives as team and business needs evolve.

Responsibilities:

Alteryx Development & Data Engineering:

* Design, build, enhance, and maintain complex Alteryx workflows, applications, and macros

* Develop ETL/ELT pipelines supporting analytics, reporting, forecasting, and financial processes

* Support automated data extractions and transformations across multiple enterprise systems

API, Platform & System Integrations

* Build and maintain integrations with systems such as Workday, Adaptive Insights, Tableau, PostgreSQL, and REST endpoints

* Implement secure authentication, error handling, and integration monitoring

Cloud Engineering & Infrastructure Support:

* Support analytics solutions across multi-environment Alteryx Server instances (DEV, UAT, PROD)

* Work with cloud services (AWS S3, EC2, RDS/Aurora, Lambda, Glue, networking, IAM) to build and scale data solutions

Financial & Costing Workflow Support:

* Build and support workflows that enable cost accounting-based forecasting, along with cost allocation cycles, budgeting activities, pricing models, and related financial processes

* Ensure data accuracy, traceability, and reliability across financial analytics and planning workflows

* Serve as an escalation point for workflow failures, data quality issues, and production incidents

* Perform unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing

* Create SOPs, architectural diagrams, implementation guides, test documentation, and troubleshooting playbooks

Security & Access Management:

* Configure and maintain role-based access controls

* Support SSO/MFA and secure identity practices

* Follow data handling, encryption, and compliance standards

Data Governance & Metadata:

* Maintain metadata, data lineage documentation, and data standards

* Support metric development, governance reviews, and reporting consistency

* Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure accuracy across analytics outputs

Agile Delivery, Change Management, & Release Support:

* Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives)

* Work collaboratively with architects, developers, cloud engineers, and product owners

* Deliver enhancements iteratively and adapt to changing requirements

* Support platform releases, environment updates, and Alteryx Server upgrades

* Follow structured change-management processes and maintain readiness documentation

* Perform additional analytics, engineering, or platform support responsibilities as assigned to meet evolving business and technical needs

Required Skills:

* Experience with Alteryx Server (scheduling, permissions, monitoring)

* Proficiency in Python and SQL

* Experience with REST APIs and integration patterns

* Familiarity with cloud platforms and data services

* Strong understanding of ETL, data modeling, data warehousing, and data quality practices

* Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

Preferred Skills:

* Alteryx Designer certifications required.

* Experience with Workday, Adaptive Insights, Tableau, or similar tools

* Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Jenkins, or related tooling

* Familiarity with additional cloud services (AWS Lambda, Glue, Aurora, etc.) Required

* Experience with cost modeling or financial analytics
