Application Development Specialist - Power Transformers

Position: Full Time

Location: Remote or Hybrid - North America*

Note: This role may be based anywhere in North America - applicants should consider the ability for limited travel as there may be 20% travel for team and client engagement and meetings as planned).


This position is within Energy Solutions Technical Service & Application Development team and is focused on Electrical Insulation Systems used in energy solutions used in the power distribution and power transformers industries.


The Application Development Specialist - Power Transformers is role is responsible for applications development for the Nomex insulating products used in the industry as well as identification of new industry trends and needs that result in development of new materials to support growing needs in North American and Latin American regions.

Responsibilities for the Application Development Specialist include technical support of the Nomex offerings into electrical applications as well as setting the direction for research and development programs necessary to support current and future business needs. This role also provides voice of customer inputs into the development of new products within the transformer insulation space.

This position also involves managing long term systems Electrical Systems Development for transformer OEMs, reaching out to transformer users like utilities and industries for developing of specification, long-term testing programs with the electrical testing lab, analyzing and interpreting data. The role also involves interfacing with material development engineers within the global team, collecting customer feedback on unmet needs and experience with new products, as well as interfacing with the marketing organization to adjust technology programs to support business direction.


Strong knowledge and experience in all aspects of the transformer industry, including participation in global/regional transformer standards development, with an emphasis on ventilated dry type (VPI) and specialty liquid filled transformers. is strongly preferred.

Successful candidates should have detailed knowledge of transformer design, testing, manufacture and operation, insulation materials and systems, insulation material fabrication along with material evaluation methods to successfully partner on development.


Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Participating in industry standards organizations and developing publications and papers that communicate research findings to the industry.
  • Partnering and collaborating with Sales and Marketing teams to support existing customers.
  • Research and understand new trends in the industry and communicate these trends to the commercial and marketing teams and help to develop an action plan for Arrow Specialties USA, LLC.
