Remote Polymer Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Polymer Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Polymer Engineer, you need a strong background in polymer science, materials engineering, and experience with product development, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with polymer characterization tools, simulation software (such as MATLAB or ANSYS), and industry certifications like Six Sigma are highly valuable. Effective communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills are crucial for collaborating virtually and managing independent projects. These skills ensure that remote engineers can innovate, troubleshoot, and deliver high-quality solutions efficiently in a distributed work environment.

How does working remotely as a Polymer Engineer affect collaboration with cross-functional teams?

As a remote Polymer Engineer, you'll often collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams through digital platforms. Regular video conferences, shared project management tools, and virtual brainstorming sessions are common ways to stay connected. While remote work offers flexibility, it also requires proactive communication to ensure project milestones are met and technical issues are addressed quickly. Building strong relationships with onsite colleagues and being responsive in digital channels can help overcome challenges related to distance.

What does a remote polymer engineer do?

A remote polymer engineer specializes in designing, testing, and improving polymer materials and products while working from a location outside of a traditional office or laboratory. Their responsibilities may include researching polymer properties, developing new materials, analyzing data, and collaborating with teams through digital tools. Remote polymer engineers often contribute to industries such as automotive, aerospace, medical devices, and consumer goods by creating materials that meet specific performance requirements. They use specialized software for simulations and communicate with colleagues and clients via video calls and online platforms. This role requires both strong technical skills and the ability to work independently.

What is the difference between Remote Polymer Engineer vs Remote Materials Scientist?

    • Proactively identify and develop growth opportunities for RCP and precast stormwater products in partnership with Sales Directors and Regional Sales Managers
    • Develop and execute account-specific strategies to influence asset owners, engineering firms, municipalities, and DOTs to specify Oldcastle Infrastructure solutions
    • Review, develop, and manage customer, municipal, and agency specifications with support from Product Engineering and Product Management
    • Track and manage published and non-published specifications and their status across the territory

    Technical Sales & Customer Engagement

    • Serve as a field technical expert for stormwater conveyance and management systems, including Reinforced Concrete Pipe, box culverts, precast drainage structures, and detention/retention systems
    • Prepare and deliver technical, value-based presentations to engineers, municipalities, DOTs, developers, and contractors
    • Read and interpret engineering drawings, shop drawings, and project plans to recommend compliant and constructible solutions
    • Confer with engineering and design professionals to assess system requirements and recommend optimized layouts and product configurations
    • Recommend improved or alternative solutions that reduce lifecycle cost, improve hydraulic performance, and enhance constructability
    • Actively support installation best practices and help resolve field-related constructability or application challenges

    Internal Collaboration & Enablement

    • Partner closely with local and regional sales teams to provide technical sales support and develop value-added customer solutions
    • Collaborate with Strategic Marketing to develop technical sales tools, case studies, and application-based collateral
    • Develop and deliver internal product and application training for sales, operations, and engineering teams
    • Support local technical resource engineers and assist in researching and identifying new stormwater product opportunities and adjacencies

    Market Intelligence & Business Development

    • Synthesize customer feedback, competitive insights, and civil infrastructure trends to inform growth strategies
    • Perform market research related to stormwater regulations, municipal standards, and industry best practices
    • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key accounts, engineering firms, and public-sector stakeholders
    • Manage project pipelines and activities using CRM tools (Salesforce)
    • Attend relevant engineering association meetings, industry events, and trade shows as needed

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical field preferred (or equivalent industry experience)
  • 5–7+ years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or civil infrastructure engineering
  • Direct experience with Reinforced Concrete Pipe, precast stormwater systems, or related civil infrastructure products
  • Strong understanding of stormwater conveyance, detention, retention, and treatment applications
