Job description

As the Associate Product Designer for Pokémon Plastics, you will play a key role in designing and developing innovative, high-quality plastic toys, action figures, and playsets for one of our major licensed properties. Combining creative ideation, a deep appreciation for the Pokémon universe, and technical hard-goods problem-solving, you will turn fan-favorite Pokémon, Trainers, and battle environments into compelling physical toys that resonate with collectors and kids alike. Come join one of the world's biggest toy-making companies and help us shape the future of play!

What You Will Do:

  • Participate in the entire product development lifecycle—from initial ideation and concept generation through refinement, prototype execution, and final turnover packages

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with brand, product management, engineering, packaging, and licensors to ensure designs align with overarching strategies and target costs

  • Create precise, clear, and complete product turnover specifications and ensure they are fully understood by global international teams and factory partners

  • Review, document, and submit specification changes for licensor approval while providing clear feedback on illustrative turns, sculpts, paint masters, and sample reviews

  • Attend brand and licensing brainstorming sessions, successfully presenting new toy concepts and designs to management and licensor teams

  • Champion high-quality design standards and work closely with management to resolve development bottlenecks while assuring products meet strict QA/QC requirements

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisor Responsibilities: No

What We Are Looking For:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in product design, specifically focused on hard goods, plastic toy development, or action figures

  • 1 to 3 years of experience collaborating with overseas manufacturing partners (Asia preferred)

  • Genuine passion for the Pokémon universe, characters, region lore, and aesthetics, with a strong pulse on what the collector and kid communities look for in plastic figures and playsets

  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and G-Suite

  • Knowledge of materials, multiple manufacturing processes, and current trends or innovations in the competitive toy marketplace

  • Exceptional visual, verbal, and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to present concepts and build consensus across departments

  • A proactive problem-solver and critical thinker who can adapt to shifting priorities, manage multiple tasks efficiently, and maintain excellent attention to detail

Nice To Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Toy Design, Industrial Design, Industrial Engineering, or an industry-relevant field is a plus
