Remote Pit Loader Operator information

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Pit Loader Operators, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Pit Loader Operators often encounter challenges such as maintaining situational awareness without being physically present at the site and managing communication delays with onsite teams. Effectively using camera systems, real-time data feeds, and clear communication protocols helps operators stay informed about pit conditions and safety concerns. Building strong collaboration with field supervisors and maintenance crews is essential for smooth operations and quick troubleshooting. Regular training on remote technology updates also ensures operators can adapt to evolving equipment and software.

What is a Remote Pit Loader Operator?

A Remote Pit Loader Operator is a professional who operates heavy machinery, specifically loaders, in mining or construction pits from a remote location using advanced control systems and technology. This role allows operators to manage equipment safely away from hazardous environments, enhancing both safety and productivity. They are responsible for loading, transporting, and dumping materials while monitoring equipment performance remotely. Proficiency in using remote control systems, understanding of mining operations, and adherence to safety protocols are essential for this job.

What is the difference between Remote Pit Loader Operator vs Heavy Equipment Operator?

AspectRemote Pit Loader OperatorHeavy Equipment Operator
CredentialsCertifications in equipment operation, safety trainingSimilar certifications, often including CDL or specialized licenses
Work EnvironmentRemote, underground or open-pit mining sitesConstruction sites, mining, or industrial areas
Industry UsageMining, resource extractionConstruction, mining, infrastructure projects

The Remote Pit Loader Operator and Heavy Equipment Operator roles share similar certifications and work environments, especially in mining and construction industries. However, Remote Pit Loader Operators specifically focus on operating loaders remotely in mining pits, often requiring specialized remote operation skills, whereas Heavy Equipment Operators may work with a broader range of machinery on various sites.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Pit Loader Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Pit Loader Operator, you need a solid understanding of heavy equipment operation, mining safety protocols, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with remote-control systems, GPS navigation, and equipment monitoring software is crucial for efficient and safe machine handling. Excellent spatial awareness, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help operators respond quickly to changing conditions and collaborate with site teams. These capabilities are essential to maximize productivity, maintain safety, and ensure smooth operations in remote mining environments.

Department: Energy Solutions

Reports To: CEO

Travel Required: 40โ€“60%

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Energy as a Service (EaaS) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our growing energy solutions team. This individual will serve as the technical authority and strategic advisor on EaaS program development, deployment, and operations โ€” with a critical emphasis on large-scale generation systems, including 2.5 Megawatt (MW) generator set design, implementation, installation, and operations. The ideal candidate brings a rare combination of deep technical engineering knowledge, commercial acumen, and operational leadership to drive scalable, reliable, and financially structured energy solutions for clients.

Compensation:

$200,000 annually

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Engineering

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for EaaS solution architecture, including distributed generation, backup power, microgrid integration, and hybrid energy systems
  • Lead the design and engineering review of 2.5 MW generator sets, including fuel system design, load flow analysis, protection schemes, and paralleling configurations
  • Develop technical standards, specifications, and best practices for genset procurement, commissioning, and lifecycle management
  • Evaluate and select OEM equipment, balance-of-plant components, and control systems appropriate for EaaS deployment models
  • Oversee power system studies, including load analysis, short circuit analysis, arc flash, and harmonic assessments

Implementation & Installation

  • Direct end-to-end installation and commissioning of 2.5 MW+ generator set systems, including site civil and electrical coordination
  • Develop and review installation plans, single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, grounding schematics, and interconnection drawings
  • Coordinate with general contractors, electrical subcontractors, AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction), and utility companies for permitting and grid interconnection
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 110, IEEE standards, NERC guidelines, and applicable local codes
  • Manage FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) protocols for generation equipment

Operations & Maintenance Oversight

  • Establish O&M frameworks, preventive maintenance programs, and performance benchmarking protocols for deployed EaaS assets
  • Define KPIs for asset performance, including availability, reliability (MTBF/MTTR), fuel efficiency, and emissions compliance
  • Support remote monitoring and SCADA/telemetry integration for real-time operational visibility
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for system failures and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop operational runbooks, emergency response procedures, and operator training programs

EaaS Program Development & Commercial Support

  • Structure and support EaaS financial models, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Energy Service Agreements (ESAs), and managed services contracts
  • Partner with sales, finance, and legal teams to develop technically sound and commercially viable EaaS proposals
  • Conduct energy audits, feasibility studies, and site assessments to qualify EaaS opportunities
  • Advise clients on the total cost of ownership (TCO), energy cost avoidance, and resilience value propositions
  • Support development of EaaS pricing models incorporating capital recovery, O&M costs, fuel escalation, and risk allocation

Stakeholder Engagement & Thought Leadership

  • Act as the client-facing technical expert during pre-sales, project delivery, and ongoing account management phases
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, trade associations, and technical working groups
  • Mentor junior engineers and project managers on EaaS technical and operational best practices
  • Contribute to white papers, case studies, and technical publications to advance the company's market positioning

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in power generation, distributed energy, or industrial energy systems
  • Generator Set Experience: Demonstrated hands-on experience with 2.5 MW generator set design, installation, commissioning, and operations is required. Candidates without this experience will not be considered
  • EaaS/DER Knowledge: Proven experience in structuring or delivering Energy as a Service, microgrid, or distributed generation programs
  • Standards & Compliance: Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 110, IEEE 1547, UL 2200, and EPA Tier 4 emissions standards
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) is strongly preferred
  • Software Proficiency: ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD, or equivalent power system design and modeling tools

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with paralleling switchgear and automatic transfer switch (ATS) systems for multi-unit generation configurations
  • Familiarity with fuel systems, including diesel, natural gas, propane, and emerging hydrogen or HVO fuels
