Remote Photo Editor information

What does a remote photo editor do?

As a remote photo editor, your job is to work from home to edit a photograph for your client. Remote photo editors usually use Photoshop or another image editing program and take pictures directly from cameras or other resources to prepare them for print or digital use. This role is similar to a photo retoucher, but as an editor, you usually make more substantial changes to a given image. This can include applying special effects, using digital techniques to add or remove elements of the image, or modifying the image to make it easier to include logos or other company assets. Many remote photo editors work on a freelance basis, but some full-time jobs are available.

What does a remote photo editor do?

A Remote Photo Editor is a professional who edits and enhances digital photographs using image editing software while working from a remote location. They adjust elements such as color, brightness, contrast, and sharpness, and may remove unwanted objects or retouch images according to client specifications. Remote Photo Editors often collaborate with photographers, marketing teams, or media companies to ensure high-quality visual content. Their work is crucial in industries like e-commerce, publishing, advertising, and social media.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote photo editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Photo Editor, you need expertise in image editing, color correction, and retouching, typically backed by a portfolio demonstrating your skills. Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and familiarity with digital asset management systems is essential. Attention to detail, time management, and strong communication skills help remote editors meet client expectations and deadlines. These abilities ensure high-quality visual output and efficient collaboration in a remote work environment.

How does a remote photo editor typically collaborate with photographers and creative teams?

As a remote photo editor, collaboration with photographers and creative teams is often managed through digital communication tools like email, video calls, and project management platforms. Editors receive raw images and creative briefs, provide feedback, and deliver edits based on the project requirements. Clear communication and timely updates are essential to ensure alignment on artistic vision and deadlines. Building strong remote relationships helps maintain workflow efficiency and ensures high-quality results, even when team members are in different locations.

Job description

Established in 2004, OLIVER is the world's first and only specialist in designing, building, and running bespoke in-house agencies and marketing ecosystems for brands. We partner with over 300 clients in 40+ countries and counting. Our unique model drives creativity and efficiency, allowing us to deliver tailored solutions that resonate deeply with audiences.

As a part of The Brandtech Group, we're at the forefront of leveraging cutting-edge AI technology to revolutionise how we create and deliver work. Our AI solutions enhance efficiency, spark creativity, and drive insightful decision-making, empowering our teams to produce innovative and impactful results.

Role: Copy Editor

Location: Remote, Canada

About the role:

The Copy Editor partners with the internal Editing team, OLIVER's Senior Copywriter and Associate Creative Director, our partners Legal team, and technical specialists to review, edit, and approve all studio content before it goes live. Your scope spans three interconnected responsibilities: editorial accuracy and brand compliance, regulatory and legal review, and SEO and AI search optimization — ensuring every asset is not only correct and on-brand, but structured to perform in AI-driven discovery environments and compliant with the rules governing how institutions can speak about their programs, outcomes, and accreditation.

What you will be doing:

  • Review and edit all copy produced by the studio across email, paid social, digital display, web, and video scripts — for five institutions — ensuring accuracy, clarity, grammatical correctness, and brand voice consistency before delivery
  • Partner with Legal team to review content against regulations, compliance standards, and requirements — flagging language risks, required disclosures, and claims that require substantiation or revision
  • Collaborate with the Editing team to maintain and apply institutional editorial standards, style guides, and terminology guidelines across all studio output
  • Work with OLIVER's technical specialists and the tech team to optimize content for SEO and AI search visibility — applying best practices for AI search query alignment, structured content, and generative engine optimization (GEO) across web, email, and digital formats
  • Leverage Share of Model intelligence — including real-time insights on brand visibility, share of voice, and AI model perception — to inform editorial decisions that improve how our partner's institution brands appear and rank within AI-generated answers
  • Review Pencil-generated and AI-assisted content with particular rigor: assess compliance risk, factual accuracy, regulatory language, and SEO structure in all AI-produced copy before it enters the approval workflow
  • Develop and maintain compliance checklists and editorial review frameworks for each institution — including required disclosures, prohibited claims, outcome statement guidelines, and accreditation language standards
  • Partner with CRM Campaign Managers and the Strategy Lead to ensure enrollment marketing content — particularly program outcome claims, financial aid language, and career pathway messaging — is compliant with applicable federal and state regulations
  • Contribute to the studio's brand knowledge base: document institutional terminology, regulatory guidance updates, and editorial standards in a format accessible to the full creative team
  • Flag systemic compliance risks or recurring editorial issues to the Senior Copywriter, Associate Creative Director, and Editing team — and recommend process or workflow improvements to prevent recurrence

What you need to be great in this role:

  • Experience in copy editing, editorial review, or content compliance in a regulated industry — higher education, healthcare, financial services, or similar
  • Strong working knowledge of US higher education marketing regulations — including FTC guidelines on educational advertising, state authorization requirements, and outcome and accreditation claim standards; familiarity with healthcare marketing compliance is a meaningful differentiator
  • Understanding of SEO fundamentals and AI search optimization — including how content structure, language choices, and topical authority affect visibility in AI-generated discovery environments such as Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, and similar platforms
  • Experience reviewing AI-generated content for accuracy, regulatory compliance, and brand appropriateness — with a rigorous, structured approach to human oversight of AI outputs
  • Exceptional command of written American English: grammar, style, clarity, and precision across multiple brand voices and content formats
  • Comfortable working in high-volume, deadline-driven environments with multiple concurrent review queues
  • Collaborative working style — able to navigate the perspectives of creative teams, legal counsel, and technical specialists and synthesize them into clear, actionable editorial guidance
  • Experience with content management systems, workflow tools, and structured editorial review processes
