Job description

Mechanical Drafter/Designer
Our client is in need of a Mechanical Drafter/Designer. This is a fully remote contract opportunity anticipated to last approximately four to six weeks. Ideally someone who can work full time during business hours.
Company Profile
Our client is an established engineering organization specializing in engineering and design solutions for government and regulated industry clients. The team develops engineered solutions unique to each project, supporting specialized equipment, facilities, and government infrastructure.
Mechanical Drafter/Designer Role
Create and revise detailed 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
Develop detailed fabrication and assembly drawings for custom mechanical equipment and components.
Create and modify mechanical assemblies, weldments, sheet metal components, structural frames, enclosures, supports, and related fabricated equipment.
Translate engineering concepts, sketches, specifications, calculations, and redlines into accurate production ready drawings.
Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs).
Develop detailed dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, weld callouts, and general fabrication notes.
Apply GD&T principles to mechanical drawings as appropriate.
Incorporate engineering comments and design changes into existing CAD models and drawing packages.
Review drawings for dimensional accuracy, completeness, manufacturability, and consistency.
Support the preparation and revision of fabrication packages for release to manufacturing.
Maintain drawing revisions and engineering documentation throughout the project.
Work closely with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and other members of the project team.
Participate in design reviews and quickly incorporate engineering feedback.
Ensure drawings and documentation comply with applicable project specifications and quality requirements.
Mechanical Drafter/Designer Background Profile
Professional experience in mechanical drafting and design.
Strong proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
Experience creating detailed 3D models, mechanical assemblies, and 2D fabrication drawings.
Experience supporting custom fabricated equipment, weldments, sheet metal, structural assemblies, industrial equipment, or related mechanical systems.
Strong understanding of mechanical drawing practices, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T.
Experience creating and maintaining BOMs and detailed drawing packages.
Ability to interpret engineering specifications, calculations, sketches, and redlines and translate them into detailed designs.
Understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes including welding, machining, and sheet metal fabrication.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to independently manage drawing revisions and priorities.
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and other technical team members in a fully remote environment.
Experience supporting federal, government, nuclear, energy, laboratory, or other highly regulated engineering projects is considered an asset.
