Summary
About the Position: Parking is limited but telework may be an option. Hours are from 7-8:30 am to 3:30-5 pm Monday through Friday. Applicants can experience being part of a large team that contributes to the delivery of outstanding medical care to military members and their families.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

  • Assign codes to all final diagnoses, procedures, and operations for medical appointments.
  • Select most applicable medical procedure in the hierarchy of surgical classes within its major diagnostic category.
  • Contact appropriate medical staff members to rectify inconsistencies, deficiencies, and discrepancies in medical documentation.
  • Identify specific clinical findings, support existing diagnoses, and substantiate additional diagnoses in the medical record.

  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Qualifications
Who May Apply: US Citizens
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to code medical diagnoses and procedures; reviewing medical records for accurate documentation; and correcting medical records to comply with regulatory requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
