Asplundh Engineering Services (AES) is growing—and we’re looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer, Physical Substation Design, who is ready to shape the future of power infrastructure.

About the Role

As a Senior Substation Physical Design Engineer, you will lead teams and/or contribute to project teams to develop custom engineering solutions that directly support our customers’ toughest challenges. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, evolving industry and wants to make a visible impact through technical excellence and innovative thinking.

This position includes a remote work schedule, giving you the freedom to contribute meaningfully—without relocating—while teaming up with a dynamic, nationwide crew that collaborates seamlessly across time zones.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll take on a variety of high‑impact technical responsibilities that are essential to delivering safe, reliable, and innovative solutions. You’ll work hands‑on with complex systems, collaborate across disciplines, and help guide projects to successful outcomes. Your work will include, but is not limited to:

  • The conceptual, preliminary and final detailed design of new, upgraded and expanded medium voltage and high voltage systems including: Electrical Arrangement, Electrical Sections (Elevations), Electrical Connection Details, Below Grade Conduit Plan and Details, Cable Trench Plan and Details, Equipment Grounding Plan and Details, Lightning Protection Plan, Outdoor Illumination Plan, Detailed Bill of Material, Electrical Grounding
  • Specification and purchase of equipment
  • Design and construction estimates
  • Working on project teams supporting all quality and project management goals
  • Leading, planning, and coordinating projects with limited supervision
  • Understanding and delivering results based on client specific standards and requirements
  • Training and developing junior personnel
  • Leading project teams and interfacing with the customer to deliver a quality product by scheduled delivery date
  • Act as the OE (Owner’s Engineer) responsible for reviewing designs and supplying design team with requested information to complete a project
  • Maintain and update engineering standards to ensure high quality products
  • Assist with Project management to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Work with Clients, Salesman, Managers and Engineers to coordinate project designs
  • Work with sub-consultant(s) to coordinate deliverables 
An ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, organizational, and planning skills while exceling in a team-based environment. The candidate should approach all tasks in a detail-oriented manner, with a strong sense of ownership over all deliverables.

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of experience in high and medium voltage design engineering
  • Knowledge of applicable NEC, NESC, and IEEE/ANSI standards
  • Design experience in transmission, substation, distribution, or generation
  • Design experience in medium and high voltage renewable generation interconnections
  • Experience with electrical equipment such as: MV and LV switchgear, pad mount transformers, Station Class Transformers, panel boards, breakers, protective relays, inverter, battery, battery chargers, disconnect switches, surge arrestors, dead front disconnect switch, medium voltage cable, low voltage cable, control cable, fiber optic cable
  • Proficiency in computers using Microsoft programs
  • AutoCAD & REVIT experience
  • Project management software experience
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

 Education & Credentials

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) professional certification, Registered PE preferred

Bonus Points If You Have

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field

Compensation & Pay Transparency

The posted compensation for this position will vary based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and geographic location, and will be determined in accordance with applicable pay equity and wage transparency laws.
For candidates in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Minnesota, this range reflects the good‑faith compensation the company reasonably expects to pay under applicable state transparency laws.
Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan, profit sharing, and benefits.
