Position Description
The Liberal Arts Program under The College of Arts and Humanities at Eastern University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, remote Program Director at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July/August 2026. We seek an educator and administrator who is eager to join a forward-thinking, vibrant academic community dedicated to Eastern University's mission of faith, reason, and justice.
Candidates will be responsible for contributing to Eastern's rapidly growing online programs and be a champion for online innovation in the College of Arts and Humanities. As Program Director, the successful candidate will work closely with the Dean of CAH on strategic planning for program development in the department. Special consideration will be given to those with prior experience with online teaching and program coordination. Additional faculty responsibilities include scholarship, advising students, program administration, committee service, and college/university activities.
The Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Digital Humanities is a full-time, tenure-track, remote faculty position within the College of Arts and Humanities. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and advising while overseeing the management (recruitment, hiring, scheduling, mentoring, evaluation, etc.) of faculty teaching in the newly created M.A. in Artificial Intelligence Innovation program and related programs within CAH. As a faculty member, the successful candidate's primary responsibilities will involve teaching core courses (online) such as Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, AI for Everyday Innovation, AI for Teaching and Learning, Multimedia Production: AI and the Creative Process, Media Literacy in the AI Era and/or AI in Innovation Capstone course, in addition to administrative duties in the management of the program. The faculty member will also have the ability to create new courses based upon expertise.
Position Responsibilities
Administrative:
  • Curriculum development, revision, and assessment.
  • Recruitment, hiring, and management of faculty and staff.
  • Faculty development and mentoring.
  • Graduate student oversight and advising.
  • Recruitment and admission of students.
  • Strategic Planning.
  • Commitment to and support of the Christian beliefs, values, and objectives of the University as embodied in its Doctrinal, Mission, and Goal Statements.
Teaching:
  • Holds faculty status within the College of Arts and Humanities.
  • The faculty member will teach 18 credits per year (with opportunities for summer teaching), primarily at the graduate and undergraduate level with some teaching duties in Eastern's general education online program at the undergraduate level in the candidate's area of expertise.
  • Fulfill the expectations for faculty scholarship and creative/professional endeavors as required for a full-time faculty member.
  • Undertake all service requirements, including university committees, assignments, and functions required of a full-time faculty member-including the participation in academic department, college, and university meetings.

Qualifications
Applicants must:
  • hold an advanced degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred; M.A. or M.S. with considerable teaching and or professional experience will be considered). A Ph.D. in a humanities discipline such as Communication Studies, English/Rhetoric, Graphic or Visual Arts, Media Studies or a closely related area is preferred. A Master's degree and significant industry or teaching experience will also be considered.
  • have demonstrated experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, or related fields.
  • exhibit evidence of outstanding teaching, scholarly, and professional excellence, and a passion for digital pedagogy.
  • be adept in creating and teaching online courses at the graduate and undergraduate level.
  • demonstrate proficiency in online learning tools and software platforms.
  • have experience in coordinating/managing a program.
  • be able to sign Eastern University's doctrinal statement.

Adjunct faculty may be eligible for medical coverage under the ACA after an annual one year lookback review.
Part-time staff who are scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week schedule are eligible for employer contribution towards the retirement plan after one year of employment. Eligibility rules apply. Adjunct faculty may make employee deferral contributions towards the retirement plan.
Part-Time Graduate Assistant Coaches are eligible for participation in the Tuition Remission Coaches Program.
Temporary, Contractors and Seasonal Employees: Individuals in this status are scheduled on an as-needed-basis and are not eligible for participation in the University's benefits programs.
