What is a remote oil rig?

A Remote Oil Rig job involves working on offshore or isolated land-based drilling sites to extract oil and gas. These roles can include positions such as drillers, rig operators, engineers, and technicians. Workers typically stay on-site for weeks at a time, following a rotating schedule. The job requires physical endurance, technical skills, and strict adherence to safety protocols. Due to the remote location, accommodations, meals, and transportation are usually provided by the employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remote oil rig position?

To thrive on a remote oil rig, you need a strong background in mechanical, electrical, or drilling operations as well as relevant safety certifications such as HAZWOPER, Well Control, or Offshore Survival (BOSIET). Familiarity with drilling equipment, SCADA systems, and safety compliance technology is essential. Adaptability, effective teamwork, and clear communication skills are critical due to the challenging and isolated work environment. These abilities ensure safe, efficient operations and support the wellbeing of the entire crew in high-risk settings.

What is the typical work schedule and living arrangement for employees on remote oil rigs?

Most remote oil rig roles operate on a rotational schedule, such as two weeks on followed by two weeks off, allowing for extended time at home between shifts. While onsite, employees usually live in shared accommodations provided by the company, with access to meals, recreation facilities, and communication tools to stay in touch with family. About Boxbar Tech

Boxbar Tech is an award-winning, high-growth technology company transforming the way drinks are served across venues, stadiums, arenas and hospitality environments globally.

We have created automated self-service drinks technology designed to increase service speed, improve quality, reduce queues, drive operational efficiency and enhance the customer experience for our partners.

Our technology combines mechanical, electrical, dispense and connected technology to create a complete beverage service solution.

We work with major venues, hospitality operators, sporting organisations and entertainment partners around the world, including Live Nation, ASM Global, LIV Golf, Levy, Sodexo, AEG Presents, Soldier Field, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, Juventus, Co-op Live and many more.

As we continue to grow our US operation, we are looking for a technically capable Beverage Dispense Technician to support the installation, commissioning, servicing and ongoing maintenance of Boxbar technology across our growing customer base.

About the Role

This is a hands-on field engineering and technical support role focused primarily on installations, new venue launches and ongoing maintenance.

You will help install and commission Boxbar systems at new customer locations, provide technical support during the critical launch period and then help maintain those systems throughout their operational life.

You will work with mechanical, electrical, beverage dispense and connected technology, diagnosing faults, completing preventative maintenance and ensuring our equipment remains safe, reliable and performing to the standard our customers expect.

This is not primarily an events role. While some customers operate within stadiums, arenas and live entertainment environments, the core purpose of the position is to provide professional field service support to our growing installed technology base across the US.

Key Responsibilities Installations & Commissioning
  • Support the installation of Boxbar machines and associated beverage technology at new customer venues.
  • Carry out equipment positioning, assembly, connection, setup and commissioning.
  • Work with internal project teams, venue teams, contractors and other technical partners during installations.
  • Complete installation checks and ensure equipment is safe, operational and ready for customer handover.
  • Test mechanical, electrical, dispense and technology functionality before launch.
  • Identify installation issues early and work with the appropriate teams to resolve them.
  • Maintain accurate installation documentation, commissioning records and site information.
  • Ensure installations are completed professionally, safely and to Boxbar standards.
New Venue Launch Support
  • Provide on-site technical support when new Boxbar installations go live.
  • Ensure systems are fully operational and performing correctly during initial customer use.
  • Train venue teams and nominated customer representatives on correct equipment operation.
  • Explain basic troubleshooting and maintenance procedures to customer teams.
  • Monitor equipment performance during the launch period and resolve technical issues quickly.
  • Capture feedback and technical learnings from new installations.
  • Work closely with Operations, Product and Engineering teams to ensure any recurring issues are identified and addressed.
Service, Maintenance & Repairs
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance across installed Boxbar equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, beverage dispense and operational faults.
  • Replace components and complete approved repairs in the field.
  • Inspect systems to identify potential issues before they become failures.
  • Carry out equipment cleaning, testing, calibration and servicing where required.
  • Maintain appropriate spare parts, tools and service equipment.
  • Respond to customer technical issues and service requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Escalate complex technical faults clearly to Engineering, Product or senior technical colleagues when required.
  • Complete accurate maintenance and service reports following every visit.
Technical Troubleshooting
  • Diagnose equipment faults systematically and identify root causes wherever possible.
  • Work confidently with mechanical components, electrical systems, beverage dispense equipment and connected technology.
  • Use technical documentation, fault-finding processes and diagnostic tools effectively.
  • Support remote troubleshooting where a customer issue can be resolved without a site visit.
  • Feed recurring faults and technical observations back to Product and Engineering.
  • Contribute to improved troubleshooting guides, maintenance procedures and technical documentation.
Customer & Venue Support
  • Build strong working relationships with customer technical teams, venue operators and contractors.
  • Communicate technical information clearly and practically.
  • Represent Boxbar professionally whenever working at customer locations.
  • Take ownership of problems and keep customers informed through to resolution.
  • Help customers get maximum reliability and performance from their Boxbar technology.
  • Identify opportunities where additional servicing, equipment or technical improvements may benefit the customer.
Continuous Improvement
  • Provide feedback on equipment performance, reliability and maintainability.
  • Highlight recurring technical issues and opportunities for product improvement.
  • Support Product and Engineering teams with field observations and technical feedback.
  • Help develop installation standards, maintenance schedules, checklists and service procedures.
  • Contribute to improving the way Boxbar installs and supports equipment as our US operation scales.
About You

We are looking for someone who enjoys installing, fixing and maintaining equipment and takes pride in leaving technology working properly.

You do not need previous experience with Boxbar technology. We will provide product-specific training.

What matters is that you have strong practical capability, are comfortable diagnosing technical problems and can represent the business professionally when working at customer sites.

You will be someone who:

  • Enjoys hands-on technical work.
  • Takes pride in solving problems properly rather than applying temporary fixes.
  • Is mechanically minded and technically curious.
  • Works safely and methodically.
  • Can diagnose faults logically.
  • Is comfortable working independently in the field.
  • Communicates clearly with customers and colleagues.
  • Takes ownership and follows issues through to completion.
  • Is dependable, punctual and organised.
  • Is comfortable travelling regularly.
  • Wants to develop their technical knowledge as our products continue to evolve.
Key Skills and Experience Essential
  • Previous experience within field service, equipment maintenance, installations, beverage dispense, mechanical/electrical maintenance or another hands-on technical environment.
  • Practical mechanical troubleshooting and repair capability.
  • Experience working with electrical or electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose technical faults methodically.
  • Experience installing, servicing or maintaining physical equipment.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, diagnostic equipment and technical documentation.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage field-based appointments effectively.
  • Good attention to detail and commitment to completing work correctly.
  • Ability to complete clear service, installation and maintenance documentation.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the US.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer locations.
Highly Desirable
  • Experience with beverage dispense, draft systems, beer systems, cellar equipment or commercial beverage equipment.
  • Experience with pumps, valves, pipework, refrigeration or fluid systems.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with automated equipment, kiosks, vending, robotics or self-service technology.
  • Experience commissioning equipment at new customer locations.
  • Experience carrying out preventative maintenance programs.
  • Experience supporting technically integrated equipment involving hardware and software.
  • Experience working within stadiums, arenas, hospitality venues or other high-volume customer environments.
  • OSHA-10, electrical safety, ServSafe Alcohol, TIPS or other relevant technical/safety qualifications.
Travel & Working Environment

This is a field-based position supporting customers across the US.

Regular travel will therefore form an important part of the role and may include:

  • Customer venues and hospitality locations.
  • Stadiums, arenas and entertainment venues.
  • New installation sites.
  • Warehouses and technical facilities.
  • Overnight and interstate travel.
  • Occasional early starts, late finishes or weekend work depending on installation and maintenance requirements.

Some customer locations operate outside traditional business hours, so flexibility will occasionally be required to complete installations, commissioning or maintenance without disrupting customer operations.

Boxbar will provide the tools, equipment, training, PPE and support required to perform the role safely and effectively.

Physical Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, this role may require the ability to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Bend, reach, push and pull equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools where appropriately trained.
  • Support installation and maintenance activity.
  • Lift and move equipment within safe working guidelines and team-lift processes.
  • Work within active customer and technical environments.
  • Travel regularly between customer locations.

Boxbar is committed to providing reasonable accommodations where possible and will work with candidates and employees to support accessibility and safe working.

Benefits / Package

The final benefits package will depend on Boxbar's US employment structure and location, but we expect the package to include:

  • Competitive hourly pay with overtime eligibility.
  • Paid travel time where applicable.
  • Mileage reimbursement, vehicle support or company vehicle arrangements depending on business need.
  • Company-paid travel and accommodation for approved business travel.
  • Per diem or reimbursed meals for overnight travel.
  • Company phone or phone allowance.
  • Laptop/tablet and required technical equipment.
  • Tools, uniform/branded workwear and PPE.
  • Paid product and technical training.
  • Support with relevant professional certifications.
  • Paid time off.
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) plan, subject to company setup.
  • Opportunity to become an early member of Boxbar's growing US technical operation.
Why Join Boxbar?

This is an opportunity to join Boxbar during an exciting stage of our US growth.

Our technology sits at the intersection of engineering, automation, beverage dispense and hospitality technology, meaning you will work with equipment that is genuinely different from traditional beverage systems.

As our US installed customer base expands, our field service capability will grow with it.

For the right technician, this creates the opportunity to develop alongside the business, deepen your technical expertise and play an important role in building the standards for how Boxbar installs, services and supports its technology across the US.
