How much do remote oil refinery lab technician jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 3, 2026, the average hourly pay for remote oil refinery lab technician in the United States is $22.53, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.27 and $24.28 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Oil Refinery Lab Technicians, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Oil Refinery Lab Technicians often encounter challenges such as limited on-site support, maintaining consistent communication with the main laboratory, and ensuring data accuracy while working independently. To address these, technicians typically rely on robust remote communication tools, thorough training in laboratory protocols, and frequent virtual check-ins with supervisors and team members. Staying organized and proactive in reporting results or equipment issues also helps maintain high-quality standards and smooth workflow despite the remote setting.

Will AI replace Lab Technician?

AI is unlikely to fully replace oil refinery lab technicians, as their role requires hands-on analysis, interpretation of complex data, and adherence to safety protocols. AI can assist with data processing and automation of routine tasks, but human expertise remains essential for accurate testing and decision-making in laboratory environments.

What does a Remote Oil Refinery Lab Technician do?

A Remote Oil Refinery Lab Technician is responsible for analyzing and testing samples from the oil refining process to ensure product quality and compliance with safety and environmental standards. They often operate specialized laboratory equipment, record and interpret data, and communicate findings to refinery engineers and managers. Working remotely may involve monitoring automated systems, analyzing data off-site, or providing support for multiple refinery locations. This role is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and safety of refinery operations.

What is the highest paid Lab Technician?

The highest paid lab technicians are often those working in specialized industries such as oil refining, where senior or lead technicians with extensive experience and certifications can earn higher salaries, sometimes exceeding $70,000 annually. Factors influencing pay include location, level of expertise, and additional skills like advanced testing or equipment operation.

Is it hard to get into a refinery?

Getting a remote oil refinery lab technician position can be competitive and typically requires relevant education, such as a degree in chemistry or engineering, along with experience in laboratory testing and safety protocols. Employers often look for certifications like HAZWOPER and familiarity with laboratory instruments, making entry somewhat challenging for those without these qualifications.

What is the highest paying career in a laboratory?

In laboratory careers, senior roles such as laboratory managers, research directors, or specialized scientists often have the highest salaries. For example, experienced chemical or petroleum lab managers in the oil refining industry can earn high six-figure incomes, especially with advanced certifications and extensive experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Oil Refinery Lab Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Oil Refinery Lab Technician, you need a solid background in chemistry or chemical engineering, analytical testing, and laboratory safety, typically supported by an associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field. Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS), gas chromatographs, spectrometers, and relevant safety certifications like HAZWOPER is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help technicians effectively analyze samples and report results. These competencies are crucial for ensuring accurate testing, maintaining safety standards, and supporting efficient refinery operations from remote locations.

Engineering Lab Technician

Flock

Atlanta, GA โ€ข Remote

$60K - $80K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 11 days ago

Job description

The Problem

As Flock accelerates R&D across our entire product hardware and mechanical suite, rapid prototyping and early-stage system validation are vital to maintaining engineering velocity. Bringing novel hardware concepts into production requires hands-on assembly, precise lab instrumentation tuning, and systematic technical evaluations. You will build physical prototypes, execute technical board bring-ups, and keep our R&D hardware testing pipelines running efficiently.

What You'll Own
  • Assemble and fabricate hardware prototypes at the PCB level, applying advanced soldering, wire termination, and mechanical assembly techniques.

  • Perform physical bring-up and QA evaluations on early-stage engineering designs to diagnose hardware malfunctions and optimize performance.

  • Utilize spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters to execute power profiling, signal verification, and system tuning.

  • Operate additive manufacturing technologies to build mechanical components and iterate on pre-production physical prototypes.

  • Manage firmware deployments and software release installations across physical testing hardware in the R&D lab environment.

  • Document comprehensive technical SOPs, diagnostic guides, and test records to support expanding lab infrastructure as operations scale.

What This Role is Not
  • This isn't a traditional manufacturing assembly-line position, you will work directly on early-stage, experimental hardware prototypes in an R&D environment.

  • This is not a desk-bound design job, you will spend your time in the hardware lab working with physical PCBs, bench instruments, and mechanical fabrication tools.

  • This isn't a static maintenance role, you'll actively feed technical feedback back to engineering teams to refine mechanical, electrical, and software designs.

What You Bring
  • Practical experience in technical engineering or prototyping environments, supporting early-stage hardware development and assembly systems.

  • Demonstrated capability in hardware fabrication, including advanced soldering, wire harness termination, and PCB-level prototyping.

  • Technical proficiency operating lab instrumentation such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters for power profiling and signal analysis.

  • Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and engineering documentation.

  • Capability to write or modify Linux and Python scripts to drive technical automation, instrument control, and data acquisition.

  • Experience with additive manufacturing tools, CAD design tools, or 3D printing workflows is a plus.

Compensation

In this role, you'll receive a starting salary between $60,000 and $80,000 as well as Flock Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in depth with you during our first chat.

Why Flock

Every community deserves to be safe. Flock builds the technology that makes that real: last year we supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people. We're 1,700 people building the impossible with over $1B in funding, and the expectations are high on purpose. If you want a role where the stakes are real and the pace matches, this is it.

Some problems get solved faster in the same room, so we prioritize candidates in Atlanta and Boston. Hub-based roles mean real in-person time with your coworkers. Remote roles exist, and when a posting is open to remote work, it says so.

Building the impossible takes every kind of mind. Flock is an equal opportunity employer, and we know the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills working together with mutual respect. Everyone is welcome to apply.
