What is remote nursing informatics?

Remote nursing informatics involves leveraging technology and data management systems to improve patient care, clinical workflows, and healthcare outcomes, all while working from a location outside of a traditional healthcare facility. Professionals in this field blend nursing knowledge with information science to support the design, implementation, and optimization of electronic health records (EHRs) and other digital tools. Remote nursing informaticists often collaborate with clinical teams, IT departments, and leadership to analyze data, troubleshoot system issues, and train staff on new technologies. This role allows nurses to contribute to healthcare improvements without direct patient contact, making it ideal for those interested in technology and flexible work environments.

How does a remote nursing informatics professional typically collaborate with clinical and IT teams?

Remote nursing informatics professionals often serve as vital liaisons between clinical staff and IT departments. They use virtual meetings, secure messaging platforms, and shared documentation tools to gather input from nurses, explain technical solutions, and ensure that electronic health records (EHR) systems meet clinical needs. Regular communication is key, as professionals must translate clinical requirements into technical specifications and relay updates or issues to both sides. Despite working remotely, strong collaboration skills are essential to facilitate training sessions, troubleshoot workflows, and drive successful technology adoption across the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote nursing informatics specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Nursing Informatics Specialist, you need a solid background in nursing, informatics, and data analysis, usually supported by an RN license and a degree or certification in nursing informatics. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, clinical decision support tools, and data management platforms is essential. Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills help you bridge clinical needs with technical solutions. These skills ensure efficient implementation and optimization of health IT systems, ultimately improving patient care and workflow efficiency from a remote setting.

Core Responsibilities

1. Strategic Account Management & Retention

  • Serve as the primary post-sale relationship owner for a dedicated portfolio of healthcare accounts across the Country.
  • Develop tailored account success plans to maximize platform utilization and clinical ROI.
  • Monitor client health metrics, proactively identifying at-risk accounts to implement mitigation strategies and minimize churn.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with healthcare executives and clinical directors.

2. Clinical Implementation & Workflow Optimization

  • Guide clinical teams through platform onboarding, mapping PsynergyHealth software into their existing Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
  • Translate clinical needs into technical configurations, ensuring smooth virtual care workflows for physicians and mid-level providers.
  • Provide clinical consultation to clients on best practices for virtual patient engagement, scheduling triage, and remote care delivery.

3. Cross-Functional Advocacy

  • Act as the internal "Voice of the Clinician," synthesizing feedback from the field to guide our product development and engineering teams.
  • Partner with the sales team to uncover organic expansion, upsell, and cross-sell opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Collaborate with marketing to develop clinical case studies and testimonials from successful client partners.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Credentials

  • Clinical Training Preferred: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license, Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), or equivalent clinical background highly preferred.
  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.

  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in healthcare account management, medical customer success, or clinical informatics.
  • Telehealth Expertise: Solid understanding of virtual care delivery models, synchronous/asynchronous telehealth, and remote patient monitoring (RPM).
  • Technical Savvy: Proficiency with EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth), CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot), and data analytics tools.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 25% within the state of Florida for on-site client launches and executive meetings.

Core Competencies

  • Clinical Credibility: Ability to speak the language of doctors, nurses, and hospital administrators with high authority.
  • Problem Solving: Skill in diagnosing complex systemic workflow bottlenecks and designing quick, elegant software workarounds.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills suited for C-suite alignment.
