What is a remote nurse triage?
A Remote Nurse Triage job involves assessing patients' symptoms over the phone or via telehealth platforms to determine the urgency of care needed. They work for hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, or telehealth providers. Strong communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills are essential for this role.
What does a remote triage nurse do?
The job duties of a remote triage nurse involve providing an assessment of each patient who calls on the telephone or contacts a healthcare facility. As a remote triage nurse, you work from home and assess patient needs over the phone full time. Other triage nurses operate in a medical facility and provide clinical services as well as telephone triage. As a telehealth nurse, your responsibilities revolve around asking questions to a patient to assess their needs. You may need to document your conversations and follow a standard process of care to gain the necessary information to evaluate a patient.
What does a remote nurse triage do?
As a Remote Nurse Triage professional, your day usually involves assessing patient symptoms over the phone or via secure digital platforms, prioritizing care needs, and providing guidance based on established clinical protocols. You’ll document all interactions in electronic health records, coordinate with physicians or other healthcare providers as needed, and may follow up with patients to ensure continuity of care. The role requires strong attention to detail, as you must accurately evaluate symptoms without in-person assessment. Many remote triage nurses also participate in team meetings and ongoing training to stay current with best practices.

To excel as a Remote Nurse Triage, you need an active RN license, strong clinical assessment skills, and extensive experience in telephone or virtual patient care.
