What is a remote nurse scientist?

A Remote Nurse Scientist is a registered nurse with advanced education, typically a PhD or DNP, who conducts nursing research and evidence-based studies from a remote or home-based setting. They design and lead research projects, analyze data, and publish findings to improve patient care, healthcare practices, or nursing education. Working remotely, they often collaborate with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, or research teams using digital tools and virtual communication. This role requires strong analytical skills, self-motivation, and expertise in research methodologies.

What skills and qualifications are needed to excel as a remote nurse scientist?

A Remote Nurse Scientist typically needs advanced nursing education (often a PhD or DNP), strong research methodology skills, and experience in scientific writing and data analysis. Familiarity with statistical software (such as SPSS or SAS), literature databases, and virtual collaboration platforms is crucial. Exceptional critical thinking, self-motivation, and effective written communication help them excel when working independently or with remote research teams. These skills ensure rigorous, high-impact research outcomes and effective knowledge dissemination in a digital, collaborative environment.

How does a remote nurse scientist typically collaborate with healthcare teams and researchers while working off-site?

Remote Nurse Scientists often collaborate through virtual meetings, shared digital workspaces, and cloud-based data platforms. They participate in interdisciplinary research projects, contribute to study design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation, and frequently communicate with clinical teams, statisticians, and other scientists via email, video calls, and project management tools. Despite working remotely, maintaining clear communication and timely updates is essential for effective teamwork and advancing research goals. Adapting to digital collaboration tools and flexible scheduling are key for success in this environment.

Job description

About Belle

Belle is a fast growing engagement company that is revolutionizing home healthcare – and it all begins with the feet. With 25M+ U.S. seniors no longer able to see or reach their feet, a lack of self care and mobility challenges cost the health insurance plans $38B+ in preventable medical spending every year.

Belle trains and manages a network of nail technicians or “Belle Technicians” who provide in-home foot care (aka medical pedicures). Belle uses cutting edge data science to identify those most in need on behalf of health plans and deploys its services accordingly. While in the home, Belle Technicians complete assessments and screenings, often being the first to identify emerging issues below and above the knee. As these issues arise, a team of remote nurses coordinate care with other healthcare providers - preventing serious and costly episodes.

Our mission: Bring Joy to Healthcare. Join us if our cause inspires you!

About this Role

Belle is seeking a compassionate and clinically skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide remote telehealth support for Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in our Chronic Care Management (CCM) program. This role focuses on responding to urgent clinical escalations from our nursing team, with the majority of calls involving poorly controlled hypertension, medication concerns, and other non-life-threatening acute issues.

As a Telehealth Provider, you will assess members remotely, determine the appropriate level of care, provide evidence-based treatment recommendations, and collaborate closely with nurses, Community Health Workers, primary care providers, and care coordinators to help keep members healthy and out of the emergency department whenever clinically appropriate.

This is a fully remote position supporting a fast-growing, mission-driven organization dedicated to bringing joy to healthcare.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct telehealth evaluations for Medicare beneficiaries experiencing urgent, non-emergent clinical concerns
  • Evaluate symptoms, review medical histories, and determine appropriate interventions.
  • Determine when escalation to the member's primary care provider, emergency department, or 911 is clinically indicated
  • Document all encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist in reducing avoidable emergency department visits and hospitalizations through proactive clinical intervention.
  • Provide patient education on disease management, medications, lifestyle modifications, and symptom monitoring.
  • Promote medication adherence and self-management of chronic conditions.
  • Provide clinical guidance and education to nursing staff on appropriate escalation pathways.
  • Participate in clinical case reviews and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license.
  • National certification appropriate to specialty.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice experience, preferably in primary care, internal medicine, family medicine, geriatrics, urgent care, or chronic disease management.
  • Experience managing hypertension and common chronic conditions, including diabetes, heart failure, COPD, and chronic kidney disease.
  • Prior telehealth or virtual care experience.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and patient education abilities.
  • Familiarity with eClinicalWorks (eCW) or similar EMRs.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Benefits
  • 401k
  • PTO, Sick, Wellness leave, and Paid Holidays
  • Opportunity for significant career growth and expansion of responsibilities
  • Ability to reshape an industry and protect lives
