This role is primarily remote, allowing flexibility while maintaining strong connections with our senior clients. • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for elderly clients, identifying specific psychological, emotional, and social needs that impact their well-being.
• Deliver individual and group therapy sessions designed to help clients navigate the emotional complexities associated with aging, such as grief, loneliness, and adaptability to life changes.
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams – including physicians, nurses, and social workers – to develop and implement individualized care plans that address not only mental health but also holistic wellness.
• Educate family members and caregivers about mental health challenges prevalent in older adults, equipping them with strategies to enhance emotional support and improve quality of life.
• Facilitate grief counseling sessions to help clients and families cope with the loss of loved ones, providing a safe space for exploration and healing surrounding end-of-life issues.
• Design and implement cognitive stimulation programs aimed at maintaining mental agility in seniors, integrating fun, engaging activities that foster cognitive health.

This position specifically focuses on geriatric clients, addressing unique mental health challenges that accompany aging. The counselor will work with individuals facing issues such as cognitive decline, chronic illness, depression, and anxiety, as well as those navigating significant life transitions, including retirement, relocation, and bereavement.

• A valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) credential is required.
• A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of four years of recent experience in geriatric counseling and mental health support focused on elderly clients.

• Additional certifications or specialized training in geriatric mental health or related fields.
• Proficiency in application of evidence-based interventions specifically tailored for elderly clients.
• Experience working within a community health setting that serves diverse populations.
• Strong skills in conducting thorough assessments and developing personalized treatment plans.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with older adults and their families, emphasizing empathy and cultural sensitivity.
