Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The QA Project Engineer is responsible for supporting company/client projects by representing quality assurance in the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned project activities. The Project Engineer serves as a central point of contact between the QA team and other internal and external stakeholders for project-related cross functional quality and process related issues. The QA Project Engineer is responsible for understanding and communicating project quality requirements, ensuring they are well understood and appropriately reflected in internal documentation, and working with quality and other personnel to ensure that project quality requirements are flowed to suppliers as applicable. Typical internal stakeholders include project managers, business development and proposal team leads, engineering project leads, supply chain, individual contributors and managers. External stakeholders will typically include partner firms, with the QA project engineer leading interactions with respect to quality matters, and customers. Success in this role requires the ability to efficiently formulate plans and strategies to address requirements and new demands, as well as the ability to build strong relationships and teams. This position will occasionally be responsible for QA process related developments and will at times be asked to coordinate cross-functional project activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Interact with project team and management from multiple companies to manage cross-functional quality interfaces.
  2. Have a diverse understanding of quality requirements to be able to provide input and support on a wide spectrum of quality and process related solutions.
  3. Support and coordinate as needed quality responses to customer Requests for Information and other marketing related activities.
  4. Effective development of quality requirements traceability matrix and incorporation of said matrix into project activities as applicable, and appropriate.
  5. Manage first-of-a-kind issuesand adapt to a constantly shifting business development environment; interface as needed with planners and other personnel to ensure that quality activities for a given project are accurately represented and accounted for in work management plans.
  6. Proactively identify and achieve resolution of project issues and anticipated challenges, including escalation of issues within the NuScale organization when necessary.
  7. Provide direction and coordinate project related activities through quality leads, supervisors, and managers.
  8. Develop and maintain processes and procedures needed for the efficient execution of quality project activities.
  9. Support project risk assessment and risk mitigation activities.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in a technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in quality assurance with a broad range of responsibilities. Must be familiar with ASME NQA-1 / 10 CFR 50 Appendix B / 10 CFR 21. Must have priorexperience working as quality lead for large, complex projects, and developing requirement traceability matrices. Must demonstrate strong technical writing skills as well as good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills. Required to have exceptional organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases. Additional required experience as follows:
    • Prior commercial nuclear experience
    • Knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, Division 1
    • Experience with ISO 9001 and other international quality standards and regulations (not required, but strongly preferred)
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810

Pay and Benefits:

The target pay range for this position is $127,104 - $153,401 annually. The full pay range is $113,955 - $178,237 annually.
