Vice President, Mediation Strategy & Growth

Fully Remote | Target Locations: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, New York City, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Charleston, or Chicago

Salary Range: $148,000 – $180,000, based on experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors.

The American Arbitration Association is seeking a strategic, relationship-driven Vice President, Mediation to help grow and strengthen AAA’s mediation services nationwide.

This fully remote leadership role is responsible for expanding AAA’s mediation portfolio, developing key client and stakeholder relationships, identifying market opportunities, and helping ensure AAA’s mediation services and panel capabilities remain aligned with client needs and emerging trends.

Working closely with the Division Vice President, Panel Resources and Development, business development leaders, and other internal partners, the Vice President will help advance AAA’s mediation mission, support service innovation, and promote sustainable growth across industries and regions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand AAA’s mediation services across industries and geographic markets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with law firms, corporations, courts, government agencies, and other key stakeholders to increase referrals and strategic partnerships.
  • Analyze market trends, client needs, service quality, and performance data to inform mediation growth strategy and service improvements.
  • Partner with Panel Resources and Development and Panel Recruiting leadership to identify mediator expertise needs, market gaps, and recruiting priorities.
  • Support mediator engagement, education, and service-quality initiatives that promote panel excellence and mediator retention.
  • Lead or support strategic initiatives, including pilot programs, technology enhancements, process improvements, and other efforts to strengthen service delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, IT, marketing, operations, and business development, to align mediation initiatives with enterprise priorities.
  • Work with AAA leadership to assess workflow, staffing, and service delivery models for scalability and effectiveness.
  • Serve as an external ambassador for AAA’s mediation leadership through conferences, speaking engagements, industry forums, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Supervise the Mediation Director, including setting expectations, providing guidance, supporting performance, and evaluating results.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in law, business, dispute resolution, or a related field required.
  • JD or advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of professional experience in legal services, dispute resolution, business development, mediation, ADR, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Deep understanding of mediation, ADR industry trends, emerging practice areas, and technology-enabled dispute resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with law firms, corporate legal departments, courts, government agencies, neutrals, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong business development, market expansion, presentation, public speaking, and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use data and market insights to guide strategy and decision-making.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using CRM, case management, or similar business systems.
  • Ability to travel regionally and nationally, approximately 20%, for meetings, conferences, and business events.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a strategic, persuasive, and collaborative leader who understands the mediation marketplace and can help AAA identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and service excellence. This person will be comfortable serving as both an external ambassador and an internal partner, with the judgment, business acumen, and communication skills needed to influence stakeholders and execute on strategic priorities.

Work Environment

This is a fully remote role. The employee must maintain a dedicated, professional workspace suitable for focused work and handling confidential information. Reliable internet access and availability during standard business hours are required.

Travel may include air travel, overnight stays, conferences, client meetings, and other business-related events.
