Job description

Inspired by faith. Driven by innovation. Powered by humankindness. CommonSpirit Health is building a healthier future for all through its integrated health services. As one of the nation’s largest nonprofit Catholic healthcare organizations, CommonSpirit Health delivers more than 20 million patient encounters annually through more than 2,300 clinics, care sites and 137 hospital-based locations, in addition to its home-based services and virtual care offerings. CommonSpirit has more than 157,000 employees, 45,000 nurses and 25,000 physicians and advanced practice providers across 24 states and contributes more than $4.2 billion annually in charity care, community benefits and unreimbursed government programs. Together with our patients, physicians, partners, and communities, we are creating a more just, equitable, and innovative healthcare delivery system.

As the System Vice President of Clinical Operations for Ambulatory Surgery at CommonSpirit Health you are primarily responsible for ensuring the ongoing clinical excellence, maintaining rigorous quality standards, and guaranteeing regulatory adherence across CommonSpirit's extensive network of multi-regional ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). Operating remotely, this position requires substantial nationwide travel to provide centralized strategic oversight and direct operational guidance.

Every day you will be tasked with standardizing and optimizing clinical processes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ultimately ensuring the consistent delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care throughout the entire ASC network. Furthermore, this leader will play a crucial role in supporting growth initiatives, embedding best practices aligned with the CommonSpirit mission, and driving superior clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

To be successful in the role the following competencies are critical:

  • System-Wide Clinical and Quality Leadership: Provide strategic and operational leadership for all clinical aspects across CommonSpirit's ASC network, driving consistent quality, safety, and patient satisfaction through system-wide policies, quality programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure comprehensive adherence to all federal, state, and accreditation regulations (e.g., CMS, AAAHC), overseeing regulatory readiness, surveys, and developing robust clinical risk management programs for all ASCs.
  • Operational Excellence & Efficiency: Standardize clinical workflows, optimize processes, and integrate innovative practices to enhance efficiency, reduce variation, and improve patient throughput across the ASC portfolio, leveraging data for performance monitoring and corrective actions.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Remotely recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing clinical leadership team, fostering a collaborative, patient-centered environment and implementing comprehensive clinical training and competency assessment programs across all ASC staff.
  • Strategic Growth & Integration: Actively contribute to strategic planning by providing clinical expertise, supporting the integration of new ASCs, evaluating new services and technologies, and participating in due diligence for potential growth opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication: Build strong relationships with internal CommonSpirit stakeholders and external partners, effectively communicating clinical performance, challenges, and strategic opportunities to executive leadership and representing the system externally.

Required

  • Education/License:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
    • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license with willingness to obtain additional state licenses as needed.
  • Experience:
    • 10-15 years of progressive clinical leadership experience in an Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) setting, preferably within a multi-site health system.
    • 5-7 years in a senior executive leadership role overseeing multiple ASCs across diverse regions.
    • Strong background in quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
    • Proven experience developing and implementing system-wide clinical policies and best practices across a dispersed network.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop clinical teams, drive operational efficiencies, and achieve clinical excellence in a remote/multi-site capacity.

Preferred

  • Master's Degree (MSN, MHA, MBA, or related clinical/administrative field) strongly preferred.
