Common Search IntentRemote Node Js Developer vs Remote Front End Developer

The main difference between a Remote Node Js Developer and a Remote Front End Developer lies in their focus areas. The Node Js developer specializes in backend development, working with server-side JavaScript, APIs, and databases. In contrast, the Front End Developer focuses on creating the visual and interactive aspects of websites or applications. Both roles often collaborate but require different skill sets and tools, making them distinct yet complementary positions in web development teams.

How do Remote Node.js Developers typically collaborate with distributed teams to ensure project success?

Remote Node.js Developers often work closely with cross-functional teams using collaboration tools like Slack, Jira, and GitHub. Regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and continuous integration practices are common to maintain alignment and code quality. Communication skills are vital, as much of the coordination happens asynchronously. Being proactive in sharing updates and asking questions helps ensure smooth progress and timely delivery of features.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Node.js Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Node.js Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js frameworks (such as Express), and a solid understanding of back-end development principles, usually supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and containerization tools (Docker) is typically required, along with relevant certifications being advantageous. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management are critical soft skills for effective remote collaboration and project delivery. These skills and qualities are essential to efficiently build, maintain, and scale robust applications while working independently in distributed teams.

What is a Remote Node.js Developer?

A Remote Node.js Developer is a software professional who specializes in building server-side applications using Node.js, a popular JavaScript runtime. They work remotely, meaning they perform their duties from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home or anywhere with internet access. Their primary responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining scalable web applications, APIs, and backend services. Remote Node.js Developers collaborate with distributed teams, use version control systems, and often communicate through online tools. This role requires strong JavaScript skills, knowledge of Node.js frameworks, and the ability to work independently.

What Does a Remote Node.js Developer Do?

A remote Node.js developer works from home as part of a back end programmer team, whose responsibilities are to ensure that the movement of data between the server and front end users is seamless. As a remote Node.js developer, your duties are to develop and write code or web application logic in JavaScript, work with other team members to troubleshoot coding problems, and collaborate with QA analysts during testing. You collaborate with front end developers and UX designers as well. In this role, you work primarily in a virtual environment and communicate via email, live chat apps, and video conferences.

Job description

Chicago (On-Site Preferred) โ€ข Full-time
Commercial real estate advisory runs on human hours, spreadsheets, and outdated software. We're rebuilding it.
Vestian is a global commercial real estate advisory firm representing the occupier side of every deal: Fortune 500 companies, fast-growing startups, and global enterprises figuring out where and how their people work. Behind every transaction is a sprawl of leases, floor plans, financial models, project plans, and document-heavy workflows that the industry still runs through email and Excel.
This is the lead engineering role on our platform. You'll work as the lead IC on a small team, building the internal tooling our brokers, lease admin teams, and project delivery teams use every day, plus the client-facing products our enterprise customers rely on to manage their global portfolios.
What you'll build
In your first year, you'll likely ship some combination of:

  • An AI-powered portfolio management platform for the world's largest enterprise occupiers, replacing the legacy software stack they piece together today
  • AI copilots that change how brokers and advisors actually do their best work
  • Document and knowledge systems that turn unstructured paperwork into data we can actually query and work with
  • Operational tooling that replaces the spreadsheets brokerage and project teams live in today
  • Mapping and location intelligence for site selection and portfolio analysis
The roadmap will shift. The work won't: software our services team uses every day, and software our clients depend on to run their portfolios.
Who you are
You've shipped production software for 5+ years and have strong opinions about engineering quality and product experience. You think in workflows and users, not tickets. You enjoy sitting next to a broker or an operations specialist, watching how they actually work, and turning that into software that makes them dramatically more effective. You can move from a blank Figma to deployed code without waiting for someone to spec the problem for you. You've made Cursor, Claude Code, v0, and the rest of the modern AI coding stack a deep part of how you work - not tools you've tried, but a force multiplier you ship with every day.
You're fluent in:
  • TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node
  • Postgres (we run on Supabase today, but we're not married to it)
  • AI-assisted development: you've made Cursor, Claude Code, v0, or similar a core part of your workflow
  • Building with LLMs: APIs, RAG, agents, evals
  • Cloud deployment (Vercel, AWS, or similar)
  • Owning systems end to end: architecture, data model, UI, deployment
You don't need real estate experience. You do need to like working close to operations, not isolated from them.
What we offer
  • Founding-level scope: real influence over architecture, tools, hiring, and product direction
  • In-office perferred; open to remote for the right person
  • Direct partnership with leadership.

Compensation $185,000 - $215,000
