Your Role in Supporting Our Members
: 

As Senior Platform Engineer - Online Account Opening on the Digital Banking team, you will own and evolve the technology platforms that power Vancity’s Online Account Opening (OAO) experiences and public-facing websites, including Vancity.com.

This role is critical to ensuring these platforms are secure, reliable, performant, accessible, and highly integrated—supporting key member acquisition journeys from first visit through successful account opening.

You will work closely with product, marketing, business, and technology teams to translate digital experience requirements into scalable technical solutions, while maintaining strong operational discipline across vendor platforms, integrations, and production environments.
This is aFull-time/Permanent role based at our Head Office in Vancouver, British Columbiaand will report directly to the Senior Manager, Application Technology.
Our head office is based in Vancouver, but we are open to candidates in BC and Ontario. While this position is for an existing vacancy and provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands when needed.

How You'll Make an Impact: 

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable web platforms supporting Online Account Opening and public digital experiences.
  • Owning the technical health of member-facing acquisition funnels, from marketing entry points through account creation and onboarding.
  • Partnering with product, marketing, and UX teams to translate business and regulatory requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Configuring, customizing, and integrating vendor-based platforms used for OAO, content management, identity verification, and digital onboarding.
  • Designing and supporting APIs and integrations with core banking systems, identity providers, CRM, analytics, and downstream platforms.
  • Monitoring system performance, availability, and reliability; leading troubleshooting and incident resolution across production environments.
  • Applying security, privacy, accessibility (WCAG), and compliance standards to public-facing and account-opening platforms.
  • Supporting platform upgrades, vendor releases, and feature launches with minimal disruption to member experiences.
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation, integration diagrams, and operational runbooks.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring to engineers, while promoting engineering best practices and operational maturity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Ownership & Reliability
  • Own the end-to-end technical operation of Online Account Opening and public web platforms.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and observability for mission critical member journeys.
  • Proactively identify and reduce operational risk through automation, documentation, and platform hardening.

Integrations & Data Flow

  • Design and support API-driven integrations between OAO platforms, public websites, core banking, and third-party services.
  • Ensure secure handling of member data across identity verification, submission, validation, and account creation workflows.

Digital Experience Enablement

  • Enable fast, compliant changes to public content, acquisition flows, and onboarding journeys.
  • Partner closely with marketing and product teams to support experimentation, optimization, and analytics integration.
  • Security, Compliance & Accessibility
  • Ensure platforms meet privacy, security, and regulatory requirements, including secure handling of PII.
  • Support accessibility standards and compliance for public-facing digital properties.
  • Incident Management & Support
  • Act as a senior escalation point for production incidents affecting OAO and public web platforms.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and drive corrective and preventative actions.

What You’ll Bring to the Team: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in platform or software engineering, with a focus on modern, web-based, customer-facing platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React / Next.js) and building performant, scalable web applications
  • Headless CMS architectures (e.g., Sitecore or similar) and integrating content-driven experiences through APIs
  • Cloud-based hosting and deployment platforms (e.g., Vercel or similar edge/CDN platforms), including CI/CD and release management
  • API design and integration patterns, including RESTful services and secure consumption of backend systems
  • Vendor-based SaaS and digital experience platforms (DXPs) and working within vendor constraints and release cycles
  • Strong understanding of:
  • End-to-end digital architecture for public websites, including frontend, CMS, and backend integrations
  • Performance optimization techniques such as caching, CDN usage, and page rendering strategies (SSG / SSR)
  • Security and privacy considerations for public-facing applications (e.g., data protection, secure API integration)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot across multi-system digital journeys, including frontend, CMS, and downstream service dependencies
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments, collaborating across product, design, and engineering teams

What You’ll Earn:

This role offers a salary range of $101,200 to $124,950 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
