Job description

Job Summary

NetApp is seeking a strategic, commercially rigorous Senior Commodity Manager, HDD to lead the global sourcing strategy for hard disk drives-one of the company's most business-critical commodities.

In this individual-contributor role, you will own the end-to-end HDD supplier and commodity strategy, including supply planning, executive supplier relationships, long-term negotiations, and supply continuity in a complex global environment.

Success requires strong commercial and negotiation skills, along with deep knowledge of the HDD industry, including technology roadmaps, manufacturing and test ecosystems, capacity dynamics, cost drivers, product lifecycles, and supply-chain risks. You will partner with Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Finance, and executive leadership to secure the technology, capacity, commercial terms, and supplier commitments needed to support NetApp's priorities.

Job Responsibilities

Own and execute the global HDD commodity strategy, aligning supplier capabilities, technology roadmaps, capacity, and commercial agreements with business requirements.
Build executive-level relationships with strategic HDD suppliers and serve as a primary commercial and strategic contact.
Lead complex, high-value negotiations, including multi-year agreements, pricing frameworks, capacity commitments, allocation protections, supply assurance, and business-continuity provisions.
Partner with Engineering and Product Management to assess emerging technologies, influence supplier roadmaps, and support performance, availability, lifecycle, and cost objectives.
Develop market intelligence on HDD suppliers, capacity, technology transitions, cost trends, lead times, manufacturing conditions, and competitive dynamics.
Identify and mitigate geopolitical, trade, regulatory, logistics, regional concentration, and other supply risks.
Maintain risk-mitigation plans covering supply continuity, capacity protection, alternate sources, contractual safeguards, and escalation mechanisms.
Lead supplier selection, qualification, business reviews, and performance management across cost, quality, delivery, technology, responsiveness, and compliance.
Develop cost models, quotation analyses, and total-cost-of-ownership assessments to support sourcing and executive decisions.
Drive cross-functional resolution of supply constraints, quality issues, commercial disputes, allocation challenges, and lifecycle transitions.
Communicate commodity strategy, supplier performance, market developments, risks, and recommended actions to senior leaders.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related technical field-or equivalent practical experience.
7+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supply chain, sales, product marketing, pricing, business development, supplier management, or a related commercial role.
Experience in the HDD industry through procurement, sales, marketing, pricing, business development, product management, operations, engineering, or supplier management.
Experience developing commercial strategies, negotiating agreements, managing strategic relationships, or leading complex cross-functional initiatives.
Strong commercial, analytical, and negotiation skills, including quotation analysis, market assessment, business-case development, and data-informed decision-making.
Ability to influence cross-functionally and engage credibly with senior stakeholders and external partners without direct-report authority.
Ability to work effectively in a remote or hybrid environment with globally distributed teams and suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications

MBA, master's degree, or advanced degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field.
Direct experience in HDD procurement, strategic sourcing, commodity management, or supplier management.
10+ years of experience in enterprise storage, data-center infrastructure, server hardware, or a related technology hardware environment.
Experience negotiating long-term supply agreements, pricing arrangements, capacity commitments, allocation protections, and supply-assurance terms.
Deep understanding of HDD manufacturing, assembly, test, quality, capacity planning, technology transitions, and end-of-life management.
Strong knowledge of HDD market dynamics, supplier landscapes, technology roadmaps, capacity considerations, cost drivers, product lifecycles, and industry trends.
Experience developing and executing commodity strategies for enterprise storage, data-center infrastructure, server, or other high-volume technology hardware environments.
Experience managing geopolitical, trade, regulatory, and regional supply-chain risks.
Track record of leading executive-level supplier or customer reviews and improving supply assurance, commercial value, delivery, quality, or technology alignment.
Experience managing shortages, allocation environments, and business-continuity planning for critical components.

How You'll Make an Impact

You will help make HDD supply a strategic advantage for NetApp. By building strong supplier partnerships, aligning technology roadmaps, securing durable supply commitments, and proactively managing global risk, you will help the business meet customer and product commitments with confidence.

This role is ideal for a commercially sophisticated leader with strong HDD-industry knowledge-developed through procurement, sales, marketing, pricing, product management, operations, or another relevant function-who is ready to apply that expertise to a critical global commodity strategy.
