NERC Compliance Manager

Spark Power Corp USA is seeking an experienced NERC Compliance Manager who is a key member of the Spark Power team ensuring the execution of strategic initiatives and continuous improvement objectives as part of the Operational Excellence program. 

Ourideal NERC Compliance Manager candidate will be someone who manages development, implementation, and monitoring efforts toward ensuring compliance of the various operational business areas with all applicable NERC Standards. Collaborates with Spark Power leadership, business areas, NERC and regional regulatory agencies on compliance matters. This role will serve as a change agent for developing and encouraging a culture that is driven by safety, discipline, transparency, and accountability.

What will you do in this position?  

  • Develop and implement effective NERC compliance strategies that ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, minimize risk, and ensure the reliability of the power grid.
  • Ensure that all employees and contractors receive appropriate training on NERC standards, requirements, and compliance procedures.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits, self-assessments, and internal reviews to identify potential areas on non-compliance and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, standards, and control processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to NERC and other regulatory bodies on compliance-related issues, including incidents, violations, and self-reports.
  • Performs market and operational data mining and related analysis as necessary to support event analysis, data requests, compliance assessments and other compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement remediation plans for identified compliance issues, including risk mitigation strategies, corrective actions, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor changes to NERC standards and regulations and ensure that compliance programs and documentation are updated accordingly.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with NERC and other regulatory agencies including responding to inquiries request and audits.
  • Continuously improve compliance management processes and procedures to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the compliance program.

  • Educational background in energy industry with a Bachelors and Masters degree. 3 years experience in the energy industry with a focus in contract management, government regulation and policy, and research and analytics.
  • Strong understanding of operational systems monitoring platforms, analytical tools and supporting systems (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio).
  • Knowledge of the Bulk Electric System, FERC, NERC and Regional Entity standards, rules and policies.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional site leadership, with excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to build trust and respect across all levels of the business.
  • Can apply a hands-on approach to solving challenges or problems.
