Position Information

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and must maintain authorization throughout employment. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
This position is contingent upon the availability of sufficient funding.

Position Title Postdoctoral Research Associate for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information Position Summary

The research will focus on advanced topics in quantum optics and quantum information, offering opportunities to contribute to innovative projects that push the field forward. This is a one-year position, with the potential for renewal for a second year based on funding and performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in quantum optics and quantum information.
  • Developing theoretical models to determine the appropriate BBO (Beta Barium Borate) crystal for generating entangled photons.
  • Assisting in the laboratory with setting up the optical systems required for the generation of entangled photons.
  • Participating in other related research projects involving the experimental generation and analysis of entangled photons.
  • Guide and work with undergraduate students in quantum optics lab.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of experimental setups and theoretical models.


Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Physics or a related field.
  • The position requires basic competencies in working within an optics lab.
  • Knowledge of how to align the optical setup and have experience working with devices like a He-Ne laser (Helium-Neon laser).
  • Proven track record of research excellence, including publications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • The incumbent must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, and technical procedures. Additionally, this incumbent must have the ability to effectively deliver oral presentations and the ability to provide information and respond to questions from the Spelman community if necessary.
  • This position requires a strong work ethics, excellent oral and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience in research preferred.
  • Preferred background in quantum optics, and quantum computing. It's a plus to be familiar with Qiskit from IBM.
