Job Description

Olsson provides multidisciplinary, preliminary, and construction design services for mixed-use, commercial, and residential land development projects, along with industrial, sports, schools, and other site development types.

The Lead Engineer role oversees high-level project design and manages the overall design tasks within a team. The Lead Engineer makes influential recommendations and decisions regarding advanced engineering activities and specialized client-type standards and has full technical responsibility of design assignments. This role manages the delivery of advanced project designs that provide purposeful, high-quality solutions to successfully solve engineering and design needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads large-scale project design by serving as a technical lead for complex assignments and managing the design from initial design to project completion.
  • Executes high-level analysis and review of project documents ensuring compliance with applicable standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Oversees and regularly monitors engineering processes and resources to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Develops and implements standards and guidelines for diverse engineering activities to ensure high-quality results.
  • Elevates the level of technical expertise within the team through technical design training and mentoring.
  • Supports project management objectives by providing leadership and direction regarding organizing technical resources for key projects and utilizing resources effectively.
  • Collaborates with project managers to ensure technical aspects of projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet established objectives.
  • Demonstrates an elevated degree of creativity, decision-making, and responsibility for design tasks within a specific discipline.

Olsson currently has growth opportunities for our Site Design group. This role offers flexible work options, including remote and hybrid opportunities, to accommodate diverse working preferences and promote work-life balance. Candidates can work hybrid schedules, work remotely, or work out of any Olsson office location in these regions/areas.

Applicants should have the ability to travel for in-office activities, client and site visits as needed.

  • Must be a registered professional and have at least four years of experience supervising technical personnel.
  • Proficiency in site layout, grading, utility design, erosion control, regulatory approvals, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3d.
  • Proven track record in meeting and exceeding client expectations through technical design work.
  • Excellent client service orientation.
  • Solid interpersonal and decision-making skills and the ability to generate innovative and effective solutions to complex problems.
