Position Overview:Describes the overall purpose of the position or why the position exists

The Grant Writer plays an important role in prospecting, preparing, executing, and reporting on grants as part of Neighborhood Family Practice's (NFP) Fund Development Team. The grant writer drives a key revenue source by securing unrestricted and program specific funding from the private and public sectors, including foundation, corporate, and government grant sources. Reporting to the Grants Manager, the Grant Writer directly supports the sustainability and growth of programs and initiatives that increase access to health care for everyone, regardless of ability to pay.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The following description is a general representation of the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Develop, write, edit, and submit compelling, data-informed grant proposals, cover letters, executive summaries, letters of Inquiry (LoIs), reports, and other supporting documentation in response to foundation, corporate, and government Request for Proposals (RFPs). Ensure proposals and reports align with NFP's priorities and are uniquely tailors to the funder's guidelines and requirements.
  • Research foundation, corporate, and government grant opportunities. Remain knowledgeable about current funding trends, particularly within the healthcare industry and in the Cleveland area non-profit sector.
  • Maintain and develop high-quality proposals and reports using templates; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; updating standard narrative information regularly. Communicate and coordinate meetings with NFP employees to gather narrative information and data as part of proposal and reporting process.
  • Meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and submission. Maintain a schedule of grant proposal and report deadlines.
  • Attend grant writing workshops, webinars, and/or conferences to develop and enhance grant writing skills. Continuously evaluate and redesign processes when indicated to improve processes, approach, coordination, and template language to enhance results.
  • Collaborate with Grants Manager, Finance Team, Fund Development team, and other appropriate staff to develop accurate, compliant, and well-justified grant budgets.
  • Participate in monthly Fund Development and Finance team meetings.
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive understanding of NFP and the North Coash Health Foundation (a supporting organization of NFP)'s missions, priorities, and initiatives, and remain abreast of Federal, State, and Local funding landscape and trends.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture that encourages open communication, respect, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Licensure, Experience:

  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, History, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or similarly related degree, or equivalent experience acquired through 3-5 years in field considered.
    • Proficient in writing private and public grants, including compliance, budgeting, and reporting requirements.
    • Experience in managing a large portfolio of private and public grants. Proven track record of meeting or exceeding target revenue.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), health care, or public health.
    • Experience in writing federal grants.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, the use of the internet for research and reliable information gathering, navigating online portals for public and private grant proposals and reporting submissions required.
  • Proficient in the use of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software such as Little Green Light.
  • Strong project management skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to organize and manage work, set priorities, multitask, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and presentation stills. Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively and independently, both in-office and remote.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of employee data and other sensitive issues.
  • Knowledge of grant writing best practices, nonprofit fundraising ethics, and compliance standards; commitment to continued learning and growth.

Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment:

  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including through the use of electronic communication devices.
  • Primarily office work environment during standard business hours. Occasional after-hours work to meet deadline requirements. Hybrid work opportunities available.
  • Able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, and walk for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting of up to 30lbs.
  • Local travel required. Valid driver's license and automobile insurance strongly preferred.
