Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Designer Location: Salt lake City, Utah Type: Contract To Hire Compensation: $38.46 - $57.69 Work Model: Hybrid – onsite and remote Hours: 40.0

Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical and piping design activities for infrastructure, industrial, and facility-related projects across a variety of sectors.
  • Perform technical work including field assessments, engineering design, documentation, and preparation of project reports.
  • Coordinate project activities with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support project objectives and deliverables.
  • Apply established engineering and design methods to develop mechanical and piping system solutions.
  • Support the development of engineering studies, design packages, technical reports, scope documents, and cost estimates.
  • Lead assigned project tasks and provide oversight for engineering activities when required.
  • Direct and review the work of junior designers, technical staff, and support personnel to ensure quality and consistency of deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance related to design development, drafting standards, field investigations, and project execution.
  • Contribute technical information for project proposals, presentations, and client-facing discussions.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction support activities as required by project needs.
  • Maintain detailed records of field observations, inspections, and project-related documentation.
  • Support construction-phase activities through site evaluations, issue resolution, and compliance monitoring.
  • Perform additional engineering and project support functions associated with mechanical and piping design projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with a minimum of 10 years of mechanical design experience, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit for mechanical and piping design and drafting.
  • Experience with mechanical and piping system design, technical documentation, and field support activities.
  • Ability to prepare engineering reports, design studies, work plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Experience overseeing or coordinating the work of junior-level technical personnel.
  • Knowledge of engineering design practices, drafting standards, and project execution methodologies.
  • Familiarity with field investigations, site inspections, construction observation, and project documentation requirements.
  • MSHA safety training certification and annual refresher training preferred.
  • OSHA safety training preferred.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in industrial, construction, or outdoor environments under varying weather and site conditions.
  • Capable of standing, walking, crouching, climbing, and performing physical activities associated with field investigations and construction oversight.
  • Ability to safely handle equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to approximately 20 pounds.
  • Familiarity with working in environments that may involve exposure to physical, environmental, or chemical hazards.
  • Strong documentation skills with the ability to maintain accurate and detailed field records.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for project-related activities.
