What is a remote multidisciplinary designer?

A Remote Multidisciplinary Designer is a creative professional who works from a location outside of a traditional office and possesses expertise across multiple design fields, such as graphic design, web design, UI/UX, illustration, and sometimes motion graphics. They collaborate with teams and clients virtually to create visual solutions for various media and platforms. Their versatility allows them to handle diverse projects, adapting their skills to meet different design needs. Working remotely, they rely on digital tools for communication, project management, and creative work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote multidisciplinary designer?

To thrive as a Remote Multidisciplinary Designer, you need a strong background in visual design, UX/UI principles, and a portfolio demonstrating versatility across multiple design disciplines. Proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, and sometimes familiarity with HTML/CSS are typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help you collaborate effectively in remote teams and handle diverse projects. These skills ensure you can deliver high-quality, user-centered design solutions while adapting to the dynamic needs of clients and distributed teams.

How do remote multidisciplinary designers typically manage collaboration and communication with distributed teams?

Remote Multidisciplinary Designers often rely on a combination of digital tools and structured workflows to collaborate effectively with team members across different locations and disciplines. Regular video meetings, shared design platforms (such as Figma or Adobe XD), and project management tools help ensure everyone stays aligned on project goals and deadlines. Clear communication, proactive updates, and openness to feedback are essential for overcoming challenges like time zone differences and asynchronous working. Designers also benefit from establishing regular check-ins and maintaining organized documentation to keep projects on track.

We are looking to hire an Electrical Engineer for our Engineering line of business, working on detailed substation design projects. EPE is seeking an experienced Engineer for detailed design engineering on utility-scale and distributed energy projects across our growing portfolio, including solar PV, BESS, wind, hybrid power, microgrids, and EV/data center infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems
Responsibilities
How you can make an impact:
  • Experience with different aspects of detailed electrical design related to generation, transmission, and distribution, including substations for solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems, their integration into the electrical grid, underground distribution systems, industrial electrical plant applications, and communications technologies.
  • Experience with substation and collection system design reviews
  • Experience with the EPC RFP process and equipment specifications
  • Outlining the initial design concepts for substations and overseeing the review or creation of detailed designs, which cover layouts, elevations, single-line diagrams, ground grid design, lightning protection, both DC and AC control schematics, wiring connections, cable schedules, and the organization of raceways, such as cable trays, duct banks, and trenches, alongside a comprehensive bill of materials.
  • Crafting technical specifications for key electrical components to meet customer needs and adhere to the most recent and relevant standards.
  • Evaluating proposals, specifications, and drawings from vendors.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, transmission and system studies; perform a range of design development, analysis, or review tasks independently
  • Making sure to complete assigned projects on time while adhering to project quality and budget objectives.

Qualifications
Bring your passion, here's what's needed:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, with a minimum of six years of experience in electrical engineering within utilities, energy systems, or renewable energy sectors
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, grid operations, and utility infrastructure; experience with renewable energy systems including solar PV, wind, and battery storage.
  • Possess experience in developing, designing, and checking detailed design drawings and documents for high voltage substations.
  • Based in the US with a Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Demonstrated expertise in a detailed understanding of the analytical tools/software used in the industry.
  • Knowledgeable in industrial standards, codes, and construction practices
  • Strong customer focus, both internal and external.
