Covia is looking for a dynamic Category Manager who will have a positive impact on our team at our Independence Ohio or Peterborough Ontario location.  The Category Manager will be responsible for managing Covia’s MRO and Mining services spend across 35 facilities in the US and Canada.  The individual will be responsible for managing budget, generating cost savings, running strategic sourcing events, managing supplier relationships, and contracting with preferred suppliers.  The individual will work closely with the purchasing operations group on execution of projects and compliance to strategy. 

 

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage all aspect of procurement for selected categories such as power transmission, electrical supplies, PPE, Industrial Supplies, OEM parts, Repair Labor Services and Mining Services for over 40 industrial locations in the US and Canada. This includes the following:
    • Develop and manage vendor relationships and performance
    • Oversee/manage the strategic sourcing process
    • Manage portfolio of contracts, including partnering with Legal department on contract negotiations with new and existing vendors.
  • Manage pricing and ensure accurate pricing in Covia’s ERP on the core list of parts.
  • Ensure efficient use of punch out, hosted catalogs and EDI.
  • Develop Forecast for Budget and review monthly variances with leadership.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders at both the Corporate and plant level to develop effective cost reduction strategies and implementation plans.
  • Coordinate with buyer group to ensure efficient process flow, and to resolve disputes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management or related field;
  • Supply Chain Designation such the CSCMP, CSCL, MCIPS, or program enrollment
  • Knowledge of the MRO industry and successful strategies for managing MRO Spend
  • Knowledge of the mining, industrial mineral or aggregate industry
  • Strong analytic skills, including strong excel skills. AI skills are an asset.  Must be proficient at managing and comparing large data files for variance analysis, RFP optimization and analysis, forecasting impacts and trends.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational/project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build relationships across functional areas with the company and up/down management chain (i.e., plant personnel to COO)
  • Supplier management skills (identify, develop and manage the relationship)
  • Demonstrated experience contributing within a team of professionals to deliver set targets.
