Remote Mortgage Processing information

What is remote mortgage processing?

Remote mortgage processing involves handling and managing mortgage loan applications and documentation from a location outside of a traditional office. Professionals in this role use secure digital platforms to collect, verify, and process all necessary paperwork, communicate with clients, and collaborate with lenders and underwriters. This setup offers flexibility for both employees and clients, helping to speed up the loan approval process while maintaining data security and compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote mortgage processor?

To thrive as a Remote Mortgage Processor, you need a strong understanding of loan processing procedures, attention to detail, and knowledge of mortgage regulations, often supported by experience in the mortgage industry or relevant certifications. Familiarity with loan origination systems (LOS) such as Encompass or Calyx, document management software, and proficiency with secure digital communication tools are typically required. Excellent organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective remote communication make someone stand out in this position. These skills ensure accurate, efficient, and compliant processing of mortgage loans, which is crucial for customer satisfaction and regulatory adherence in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote mortgage processors, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote mortgage processors often face challenges related to communication, document management, and maintaining compliance with evolving regulations. Since much of the coordination with loan officers, underwriters, and clients happens virtually, clear and timely communication is essential to prevent delays. Effective use of secure, cloud-based systems for document sharing and task tracking can help maintain organization and data security. Staying updated with regulatory changes and company policies through regular training also supports accuracy and compliance in a remote setting.

Job description

McGowan Mortgages — a top-producing branch of NEXA Mortgage LLC — is hiring a remote Mortgage Loan Processor to move purchase and refinance files from submission to clear-to-close.

We are a broker shop with access to 300+ wholesale lenders, which means you will work across many lender guidelines and portals rather than one set of overlays. Our processors own their files: you order and track third-party services, clear conditions, communicate with borrowers and agents, and drive the file to closing.

What We Offer:

  • $65,000 - $80,000 annually, based on experience

  • Fully remote — work from anywhere in the U.S.

  • Access to 300+ wholesale lenders and AI-powered workflow tools

  • Direct access to the producing Branch Manager, Derek McGowan

  • Real growth path into senior processing and operations roles

Compensation:

$65,000 - $80,000 yearly

Responsibilities:
  • Obtain property documentation to process mortgage loan files, including appraisals, inspections, title searches, site surveys, contracts, and property tax records
  • Assist borrowers in determining the best mortgage type based on interview and situation
  • Prepare and submit detailed loan packages to the lender underwriting department for approval or denial
  • Decide the creditworthiness and complete the mortgage loan application by working with the borrower to obtain necessary and verified financial documentation, such as credit reports
  • Ensure loan files meet lending and regulatory guidelines and policies
  • Process purchase and refinance files from submission through clear-to-close across multiple wholesale lenders

  • Review 1003s, income, asset, and credit documentation for accuracy and completeness before submission

  • Order and track appraisals, title, HOI, VOEs, payoffs, and flood certifications

  • Clear underwriting conditions promptly and rebut conditions when the file supports it

  • Keep borrowers, buyer's and, listing agents, and title updated on file status and deadlines

  • Monitor rate lock expirations, closing dates, and document expiration dates on every file

  • Maintain accurate file data in our LOS and pipeline boards

Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and time management skills and superior attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a requirement
  • Experience in mortgage lending and knowledge of loan types, such as FHA, FHLB, FNMA, or VA loans required
  • High school diploma or GED required - Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred
  • At least 2 years of loan processing experience required
  • 1+ years of mortgage loan processing experience (broker or lender side)

  • Working knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, and non-QM/DSCR guidelines

  • Hands-on experience with an LOS — ARIVE, Encompass, LendingPad, or Calyx preferred

  • Strong written communication; you will be emailing borrowers, agents, and lender reps daily

  • Highly organized and able to manage 20+ active files without dropping deadlines

  • Authorized to work in the United States; able to work U.S. business hours
