Job description

Redan LLC is seeking an experienced Data Operations Specialist (DBA) to operate and sustain the cloud data environment ensuring stability, reliability, and security across AWS pipelines, databases, and a public open-data portal.
In this role you will keep production data operations healthy and predictable: operating established AWS workflows, administering relational and warehouse databases, publishing datasets through the agency's open-data portal, monitoring platform health, and responding to incidents. You will maintain the operational documentation - SOPs, runbooks, and health and maintenance reports - that keeps the environment auditable and supportable.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on AWS data-operations and database-administration depth, a reliability- and quality-first mindset, and the discipline to meet SLAs in a regulated federal environment. You must be comfortable in an Agile environment and effective at collaborating with engineering, governance, and end-user stakeholders.
What You'll Be Doing
As the Data Operations Specialist (DBA) at Redan, you will:
  • Operate and maintain established AWS-based data workflows (Lambda, Glue, Step Functions, Redshift, RDS PostgreSQL, S3, and related data services)
  • Conduct ongoing database administration - tuning, patching, backup and restore, indexing, and general maintenance - across managed relational and warehouse stores (RDS PostgreSQL and Redshift; SQL Server legacy)
  • Manage the Huwise open-data portal and CKAN data catalog; ensure accurate, timely dataset publication and support new data visualizations
  • Monitor platform health, logging, and alerts; perform initial incident triage and response by severity level
  • Monitor data quality and observability - pipeline execution, data freshness, completeness, and volume anomalies
  • Maintain and update SOPs, runbooks, and operational documentation at least quarterly, and within 30 days of a new or updated data-product release
  • Deliver monthly SLA performance reporting - pipeline success rates, incident summaries, data availability, and operational metrics - plus a monthly database health and maintenance report
  • Provide end-user support and training related to database access, credentials, and data-usage tools
  • Ensure backups meet documented RTO/RPO objectives and that o
    • perations sustain the required successful-run rate
    • Support ATO maintenance, FISMA compliance, and protection of PII and CUI in coordination with the agency IT and security teams

    Profile of Success
    Required:
    • Minimum 5 years of database administration and data-operations experience, including production support
    • Hands-on experience administering Amazon Redshift, RDS (PostgreSQL or SQL Server), or comparable managed data stores - backup and restore, tuning, patching, and performance optimization
    • Experience operating AWS data services (Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, S3) in a production environment
    • Experience designing and maintaining relational schemas, star/snowflake models, indexes, and partition strategies
    • Proficiency in SQL; working proficiency in Python for operational scripting and automation
    • Experience monitoring platform health, logging, and alerting, with incident triage and resolution under SLAs
    • Experience producing SOPs, runbooks, and operational or governance artifacts for federal or regulated stakeholders
    • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and ceremonies
    • Excellent written and oral communication; strong troubleshooting and attention to detail

    Preferred:
    • AWS certification (e.g., SysOps Administrator - Associate, Data Engineer - Associate, or Solutions Architect - Associate)
    • Experience with open-data platforms - CKAN, Huwise, or comparable data portals
    • Experience with data-validation tooling (e.g., Great Expectations) and data catalogs (AWS Glue, Lake Formation)
    • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD
    • Prior federal experience; familiarity with FISMA, ATO maintenance, and Privacy Act and CUI handling
      Conditions of Employment
      • U.S. Citizenship is required
      • Must obtain and maintain a favorably adjudicated Minimum Background Investigation (MBI, Moderate Risk) prior to accessing client systems, and maintain that clearance level throughout the period of performance
