BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is hiring a Senior AI Engineer within our Facets Claims, Integrations & Operations and BlueCard/ITS division. This fully remote, newly created role will help establish the AI integration and automation foundation for Core Payer Applications. You'll lead the design and development of AI platform capabilities, MCP (Model Context Protocol) services, and enterprise integrations that connect AI agents with business applications, APIs, and data sources.

Working at the intersection of healthcare operations and artificial intelligence, you'll play a key role in shaping how technologies are extended for our mission-critical applications and adopted across our organization.

Our ideal candidates will bring:

  • Experience designing and building enterprise-scale integrations, APIs, or platform services in a regulated environment (healthcare, financial services, government, etc.)

  • Experience with AI agents, MCP (Model Context Protocol), tool calling, or similar frameworks that connect AI systems to enterprise applications and data sources

  • Experience translating business workflows into scalable AI-enabled solutions

  • Conductin-depth researchand maintain expertise in the latest advancements in AI,championing the adoptionof cutting-edge techniques and methodologies within the team.
  • Architect and developrobust, scalable, and efficient systems and code bases for deploying AI models into production environments, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Serve as akey technical advisorto our internal Lines-of-Businesses, understanding complex needs, gathering requirements, and translating them into impactful, actionable AI solutions.
  • Define and overseethe evaluation and validation frameworks for AI models, ensuring their accuracy, reliability, fairness, and performance exceed business requirements.
  • Mentor and guidejunior engineers on best practices in AI development, model implementation, and system design.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) or related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • Master's or PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning)strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 5+ yearsof relevant work experience in analytics, technology, software engineering, or healthcare (academic experience included), or related equivalent experience.
  • 3+ yearsof hands-on experience specifically with machine learning, deep learning, and preferablyAI models(e.g., LLMs, diffusion models) is required.
  • Proven experience handling large, complex datasets to build and optimize sophisticated data science pipelines.
  • Deep experience with Machine Learning, Deep Learning frameworks (e.g.,Pytorch, TensorFlow), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and associated libraries (e.g.,Hugging Face Transformers).
  • Experience deploying and managing ML models in cloud environments (GCP Vertex AI preferred, AWS SageMaker or Azure ML acceptable).
