Job description

Investment Professional – Direct Private Equity

Fully remote - US based

175 - 225K + upside

Position Overview

A growing family office is building its direct investment platform focused on acquiring majority or 100% ownership stakes in small, profitable private companies.

We are seeking an entrepreneurial, execution-focused investment professional to source, evaluate, and execute direct investments, while helping build a scalable deal pipeline and investment process.

This is a high-ownership, high-accountability role with direct exposure to the Principal and CFO. The role is ideal for someone who wants to operate like an independent sponsor within a family office structure—owning deals from origination through closing and monitoring performance post-acquisition.

The position can be full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate and deal flow.

Investment Strategy

  • Equity Investment Size: $2M – $5M per deal
  • Target Company Size: ~$5M – $10M enterprise value
  • Deal Type: Majority control or 100% acquisition
  • Deal Volume: ~2–3 transactions per year
  • Financial Profile: EBITDA positive (or near breakeven)
  • Focus: Businesses with a clear, defensible value proposition
  • Structure: Flexible (leverage, seller financing, earnouts, etc.)
  • Industry Scope: Generalist (excluding inventory-heavy / food businesses)

Key Responsibilities

1. Deal Sourcing & Pipeline Development

  • Build and manage a proprietary deal pipeline
  • Develop relationships with:
    • Investment bankers
    • Business brokers
    • Intermediaries and referral sources
  • Source both on-market and off-market opportunities
  • Proactively originate deals through outreach and network development
  • Track and manage pipeline activity in a structured manner

2. Investment Evaluation & Underwriting

  • Lead initial screening and qualification of opportunities
  • Perform financial analysis and build investment cases
  • Partner with the CFO on:
    • Financial modeling
    • Return analysis
    • Capital structure considerations
  • Evaluate:
    • Business quality and competitive positioning
    • Revenue stability and growth potential
    • Key risks and operational considerations
  • Prepare concise investment memos for internal decision-making

3. Due Diligence & Transaction Execution

  • Lead the deal process from LOI through closing
  • Coordinate diligence, including:
    • Financial review
    • Customer and business validation
    • Operational assessment
  • Work with legal counsel on transaction structuring and documentation
  • Negotiate key deal terms, including:
    • Purchase price
    • Seller financing
    • Earnouts and incentives
  • Manage transaction timelines and ensure efficient execution

4. Financing & Capital Structuring

  • Support sourcing and evaluation of debt financing when applicable
  • Interface with lenders and financing partners
  • Assist in structuring deals to optimize risk-adjusted returns

5. Portfolio Monitoring

  • Monitor performance of acquired companies
  • Review financial results and track against underwriting expectations
  • Maintain regular communication with management teams
  • Identify key risks and performance issues early
  • Support strategic decisions at a high level (without day-to-day operating responsibility)

6. Platform Development

  • Help build internal investment processes and playbooks
  • Improve sourcing strategies and pipeline conversion
  • Contribute to shaping long-term investment strategy

Candidate Profile

Strong preference for candidates with experience in:

  • Small / micro-cap private equity
  • Search funds or independent sponsor environments
  • Operator background (CEO, COO, or senior leadership in small businesses)

Experience & Skillset

  • Demonstrated ability to source or drive deal flow
  • Strong commercial judgment and business intuition
  • Experience evaluating small to lower middle-market companies
  • Ability to operate in a lean, unstructured environment
  • Comfortable wearing multiple hats across sourcing, diligence, and execution
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage owners, brokers, and advisors

Personal Attributes

  • Highly self-directed and entrepreneurial
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • “Hunter” mentality for sourcing opportunities
  • Practical and execution-oriented (not purely theoretical)
  • Comfortable working directly with senior decision-makers
