We are currently seeking a Technical Data Steward.ย This is a long term, remote contracting position for candidates who live in the United States.ย We are able to work with W2 and established 1099 contractors (no c2c).
We are looking for candidates with 5โ10 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Stewardship, or Data Management, with hands-on experience supporting HR data environments, strong knowledge of Oracle HCM or PeopleSoft, experience with Azure data platforms, and expertise in metadata management, data quality, lineage, security controls, and enterprise data governance frameworks. Must be comfortable partnering with both technical and business stakeholders to ensure trusted, secure, and well-governed HR data across the organization.
The Technical Data Steward (HR Data Analytics) is responsible for the governance, quality, security, metadata management, and technical oversight of HR data within an Azure-based data warehouse environment. This role acts as the technical authority for HR data assets, ensuring that data is properly defined, cataloged, secured, governed, and available for reporting, analytics, AI initiatives, and business decision-making.ย The position serves as a bridge between HR business teams, Data Governance, Data Engineering, Information Security, and Analytics teams. The Technical Data Steward is responsible for managing metadata, data lineage, data quality, data lifecycle processes, and access controls while supporting enterprise governance standards and HR reporting requirements.ย This role is a blend of Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Data Quality Management, Metadata & Lineage Management, Azure Data Warehousing, HR Data Analytics and Security & Compliance.
The Technical Data Steward is responsible for the technical data management, governance, integrity and quality of Human Resources data assets for the HR Data Warehouse (Azure) and its platforms. This role ensures that data is properly defined, secured, governed, and usable across systems by partnering with HR business stewards, HR Data Analytics team, engineering teams, and stakeholders.
Candidates will provide technical data stewardship support to the HR Data Analytics team in managing, governing, and optimizing HR data assets. This role ensures data is accurate, secure, and aligned with enterprise data governance standards to support analytics, reporting, and strategic initiatives.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Ensure execution of governance workstreams, including:
- Metadata management
- Enterprise quality controls

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Monitor adherence to technical data standards and drive compliance across the business area
2.ย Data Management & Technical Oversight
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Own technical data decisions on behalf of the Business Data Owner
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Provide subject matter expertise on:
- Source systems
- Data stores and warehouses
- ETL processes and pipelines
- Business intelligence tools
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Ensure proper implementation of data across systems and platforms
3.ย Metadata, Lineage & Cataloging
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Build and maintain a data catalog, including metadata and business glossary
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Ensure data definitions, rules, and standards are clearly documented and consistently applied
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Capture and maintain data lineage (end-to-end technical flows)
4.ย Data Quality & Issue Resolution
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Drive root cause analysis of data quality issues and coordinate resolution with Enterprise data and HR Analytics teams
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Assist in design and implementation data quality audits, controls, and monitoring tools
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Plan and lead data cleansing and remediation initiatives
5.ย Security & Risk Management
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Partner with Information Security, HR Data Governance and HR Data teams to implement controls such as:
- Role-based access (RBAC)
- Persona based access
- Row level access
- Encryption and data protection standards
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability across platforms
