How does a remote meta data science role typically collaborate with cross-functional teams despite being off-site?

In a remote Meta Data Science position, collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as product managers, engineers, and designers—is primarily facilitated through virtual communication tools like video conferencing, chat platforms, and collaborative project management software. Regular stand-ups, sprint meetings, and asynchronous updates help ensure alignment on project goals and timelines. While remote work offers flexibility, it also requires proactive communication and documentation to maintain transparency and foster effective teamwork. Building relationships remotely may take extra effort, but companies like Meta provide structured onboarding and virtual community events to support team cohesion.

What is a remote meta data scientist?

A Remote Meta Data Scientist is a professional who works for Meta (formerly Facebook) in the field of data science, but does so from a remote location instead of a traditional office. They analyze large datasets, build predictive models, and provide insights to help Meta improve its products and user experience. Their work may involve machine learning, statistical analysis, and collaborating virtually with cross-functional teams. Remote Meta Data Scientists use tools such as Python, SQL, and data visualization software to solve complex business problems.

Job description

Meta is seeking a technically strong problem-solver to join the Data & System Assurance team within Global Controllership. In this role you will help govern and fortify Meta's complex global accounting systems, building data-driven solutions that keep our accounting accurate, controlled, and scalable as our product landscape evolves. You will use deep technical skills combined with a strong risk mindset to solve complex analytical and systems problems, develop a deep understanding of Meta's systems and code base and their downstream impact on accounting, and partner closely with engineering, product, and accounting teams to strengthen the control environment. You will support the launch of new products, transactions, and processes to ensure system readiness and compliance, and build AI-integrated solutions that let us do this work at scale.
System Assurance Manager Responsibilities:
  • Develop an end-to-end understanding of Meta's accounting products, processes, system dependencies, controls, and risks
  • Partner closely with engineering and product teams to design scalable data infrastructure and system solutions
  • Translate complex business and accounting rules into automated controls and continuous monitoring
  • Assess the SOX impact of new products and system changes, and support control design, testing, and remediation
  • Standardize and improve upstream data sources to strengthen accounting accuracy
  • Build and maintain monitoring and automation that surface risks and anomalies before they reach the financials
  • Leverage internal AI tools and build AI-integrated solutions to scale insights and operational efficiency
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to accounting, audit, and engineering audiences

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Finance, Economics, or equivalent)
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in analytics, engineering, finance systems, or a similar field working on systems and scaling processes
  • 3+ years of experience with SQL in a highly complex data environment
  • Track record of independently driving ambiguous, end-to-end technical workstreams with limited direction
  • Demonstrated success working with large, complex datasets
  • Experience partnering effectively with large, diverse cross-functional teams (Engineering, Finance, Operations)
  • Experience communicating complex concepts to a wide range of audiences

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with modern data platforms and pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Databricks, Spark, Airflow)
  • Familiarity with accounting, controllership, internal audit, and/or risk management principles
  • Experience with Python and building automation or monitoring
  • Familiarity or experience with IT audits, ITGCs, and/or SOX compliance
  • Experience building or applying AI tools to analytical or systems problems
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
