Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic, multi-disciplined, full-service A/E firm. This role will focus on the design of mechanical systems for buildings, with an emphasis on HVAC systems throughout all project phases—including design, bidding, permitting, and construction.The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in building mechanical systems and a desire to contribute meaningfully from conceptual development through final design and owner acceptance. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with architects, clients, and other engineering disciplines on a wide range of project types. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Capable and experienced in all areas of Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on buildings and building site mechanical systems
  • Experience producing Mechanical & Plumbing design and construction documents in an A/E consulting firm
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 10+ years of hands-on design experience in HVAC systems, process cooling/heating, and mechanical utilities
  • Proficiency in REVIT MEP
  • Understanding and experience with design and office related computer software and operating systems
  • Experience working with architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, electrical engineers, interior designers, and other technical personnel
  • Experience mentoring and supervising mechanical and plumbing engineers, designers and other technical personnel
  • Broad knowledge of building mechanical engineering, concept development, and final design including HVAC systems, HVAC controls, plumbing systems, fire protection, piping systems, and Mechanical utility systems

  • Experience designing building HVAC systems to meet LEED criteria
  • Experience using HVAC analysis software; Carrier HAP or NIBS Trace 700 preferred

  • Comfortable with a broad range of project types
  • Familiarity and experience working with building codes

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help our clients achieve their goals
  • Work with Director, Mechanical Engineers and Project Managers to meet KZF goals and objectives
  • Respond to estimated budget hour requests from Division Managers and Project Managers
  • Assist project managers with development of project schedules and budgets
  • Provide technical, project management and client management support to projects
  • Work directly with the Director and KZF project managers and assume the “day-to-day” responsibility of mechanical engineering design/production for assigned projects
  • Work with Project Managers to establish design parameters consistent with the project scope, schedule and budget
  • Prepare Mechanical design and construction documents in REVIT M&P, per applicable standards
  • Coordinate with project managers regarding schedule and construction costs for each project scope of work
  • Seek advice and counsel from Director of Mechanical Engineering Services as needed
  • Interface with all professional disciplines assigned to the project to coordinate the Mechanical work
  • Prepare mechanical design studies, written design narratives, calculations, and analysis, and direct Mechanical Engineering support staff as required
  • Research building materials and systems and select appropriate items for incorporation into the building design
  • Maintain a working knowledge of architectural, electrical, structural, civil, fire protection and telecom building systems; coordinate these systems with the mechanical design
  • Perform conceptual planning and design and confirm the requirements of assigned projects are consistent with the project scope, schedule and budget
  • Prepare design documents as required for all phases of design (concept, schematic, design development and construction documents)
  • Prepare documents in conformance with KZF standards and quality control requirements
  • Prepare outline and final construction document specifications, and coordinate the work with other project specifications
  • Assist with and prepare construction cost estimates
  • Remain current with new products and tools that will assist you in better meeting our client’s needs
  • Conduct field investigations to understand project requirements
  • Assist with quality assurance reviews
  • Research and prepare building code analysis for Mechanical Engineering work
  • Maintain technical accuracy, constructability, code conformance, and appropriate level of detail for project designs
  • Assist in mentoring and technical development of Mechanical staff
  • Participating in value engineering
  • Attend and participate in project team meetings
  • Maintain technical expertise in your profession and area of work
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of mechanical design standards including master specifications, Mechanical standards, drawing standard procedures, CADD standards and project documentation standards, as assigned by the Director
  • Provide REVIT support to the Construction Administration Department and other team members on projects
  • Seal all documents for which you are in responsible charge
  • Assist with construction administration, provide bidding assistance, review shop drawings, prepare construction submittals, participate in construction site observation, prepare Request For Information (RFI) responses and work with the Construction Administration Department and other team members to resolve construction issues in a timely manner
