Job description

A direct client of ours is seeking a strong data migration engineer with strong healthcare industry backround. This role is responsible for the analysis, extraction, transformation, validation, and migration of healthcare data from legacy applications into the client's Clinical Data Repository.

100% remote work from home.
The successful candidate will work closely with customers, partners, and internal teams to deliver complex healthcare data migration projects while ensuring data integrity, regulatory compliance, and successful project outcomes. In addition to executing migration activities, the engineer will provide technical guidance during solution implementations, contribute to process improvements, and support solution design, customer engagements, and project delivery.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in healthcare data migration with excellent analytical, communication, and customer-facing skills.
Responsibilities and Competencies

  • Analyse and assess data from legacy healthcare applications to determine data structures, formats, and relationships
  • Work closely with healthcare professionals and technical teams to identify critical clinical data and establish data migration priorities
  • Conduct data profiling and quality assessments to determine the state and quality of the data in legacy systems
  • Perform data extraction from a range of legacy healthcare applications, including but not limited to:
    • Electronic Patient Records (EPR)
    • Patient Administration Systems (PAS)
    • Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS)
    • Radiology Information Systems (RIS)
    • Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
    • Home-grown clinical applications
  • Cleanse, standardise, and transform the data to meet the requirements of the new clinical data repository
  • Collaborate with other teams to resolve data quality issues, including duplicates, inconsistencies, and errors
  • Ensure successful data migration into the clinical data repository, following best practices for data mapping, transformation, and integration
  • Develop and execute scripts, queries, and processes to move data from legacy systems to the new repository
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of the migrated data and conduct post-migration validation
  • Collaborate with project managers, development engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure migration tasks are completed on time and in line with project objectives
  • Recognise project risks, roadblocks, and deficiencies and report to Project Management before they impact the project's timelines, goals, and budget
  • Produce detailed reports and documentation on data extraction, transformation, and migration processes
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and issues with the migration team and clients as required
  • Assist with the qualification, scoping, and sales process for “non-standard” service offerings and assist with SOW and design specification creation to support such engagements
  • Ability to work “off-hours” on occasion during projects to minimise the impact on hospital staff

Required Skills & Experience
Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare data migration, data extraction, transformation, and validation.
  • Experience working with healthcare applications such as EHRs, PAS, PACS, RIS, LIMS, and other clinical systems.
  • Knowledge of data formats (e.g. FHIR, HL7, DICOM, CDA, CCD) and the challenges in migrating healthcare data between systems
  • Experience delivering enterprise healthcare data migration projects.
  • Proficient in SQL for querying and manipulating very large datasets
  • Experience with scripting languages for automating data extraction and transformation tasks.
    • C#, SSIS/SSDT experience is a plus.
  • Experience with data transformation tools, ETL processes, and data integration techniques
  • Patient data registry experience
  • Experience using data migration and integration tools (e.g. Informatica, Talend, SSIS)
  • Hands-on experience utilizing AI solutions and operationalizing them across both established and new business workflows.
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets, identify key data elements, and propose effective solutions for data migration challenges
  • Experience with MEDITECH environments is preferred, particularly with NPR data and report writing, clinical workflows, and healthcare data standards (e.g. FHIR, SNOMED, ICD-10, HL7, DICOM)

Soft Skills
