Can medical coding jobs be remote?

Yes, medical coding jobs are often available as remote positions, allowing coders to work from home using coding software and electronic health records. Many employers in healthcare and insurance industries offer remote opportunities that require certification and familiarity with coding systems like ICD-10 and CPT.

How do Remote Medical Coders typically communicate and collaborate with healthcare providers and team members?

Remote Medical Coders often collaborate with healthcare providers, billing teams, and other coders through secure digital platforms, email, and scheduled video conferences. Clear communication is essential to clarify documentation, resolve coding discrepancies, and ensure accurate billing. Many employers use specialized health information systems and project management tools to streamline workflow and maintain HIPAA compliance. Frequent virtual meetings and messaging help foster teamwork and keep everyone aligned, even when working from different locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Medical Coder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Medical Coder, you need a solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems such as ICD-10 and CPT, usually supported by a coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS). Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs) and coding software like 3M or Epic is essential for accurate and efficient work. Attention to detail, time management, and strong written communication skills help remote coders excel in independent, deadline-driven environments. These abilities ensure accurate billing, compliance with regulations, and minimal claim denials, which are critical for healthcare organizations' operational and financial success.

What is the difference between Remote Medical Coder vs Remote Medical Biller?

AspectRemote Medical CoderRemote Medical Biller
CertificationsCertified Professional Coder (CPC), CCSCertified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS), CPC
Work EnvironmentAnalyzing medical records, coding diagnoses and proceduresSubmitting claims, following up on payments
Industry UsageHealthcare providers, hospitals, clinicsInsurance companies, billing services, healthcare providers

Remote Medical Coders and Remote Medical Billers often work together but focus on different tasks. Coders assign codes based on medical records, while Billers handle claims submission and payment follow-up. Both roles require similar certifications and are essential in healthcare revenue cycle management.

Will AI eventually replace medical coders?

Remote medical coders play a vital role in translating healthcare documentation into standardized codes. While AI tools are increasingly used to assist with coding tasks, human oversight remains essential to ensure accuracy, handle complex cases, and interpret nuanced medical information. Therefore, AI is expected to augment rather than fully replace medical coders in the foreseeable future.

How much do medical coders make WFH?

Remote medical coders typically earn between $40,000 and $60,000 annually, depending on experience, certifications, and the employer. Many work flexible hours and use coding software like ICD-10 and CPT to perform their tasks from home.

What is a Remote Medical Coder?

A remote medical coder is a healthcare professional who reviews clinical documents and assigns standardized codes for diagnoses, procedures, and medical services, all while working from a remote location such as their home. These codes are essential for billing, insurance claims, and maintaining patient records. Remote medical coders typically use electronic health records (EHR) and must have a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems like ICD-10 and CPT, and relevant regulations. Working remotely offers flexibility but still requires attention to detail, confidentiality, and adherence to industry standards.

Are remote medical coding jobs legit?

Remote medical coding jobs are legitimate positions in the healthcare industry that involve reviewing medical records and assigning appropriate codes for billing and documentation. These roles typically require certification, such as CPC or CCS, and can be performed from home using coding software and secure systems. However, job seekers should verify the employer's credibility to avoid scams.

What Does a Remote Medical Coder Do?

Remote medical coders are medical coders who work from home or locations outside of healthcare facilities. They process patient information, such as diagnosis, services rendered, and equipment used to conduct tests, in order to translate it into medical codes consisting of numbers and letters. Billing and coding specialists manage this information so that patients or their insurance companies can be billed appropriately. Remote medical coders may be self-employed or work for large coding firms that contract with hospitals or healthcare facilities.

Job description

Mobile / Front-End Developer

Our client is a fast-growing mortgage technology company based near Irvine, CA, building a state-of-the-art mobile experience layer for brokers and retail borrowers. Their platform is AI-first, their team moves fast, and they are investing heavily in the mobile product. This is a greenfield opportunity to own meaningful, shipped work from day one.

The Role

You will build polished, fast, mobile-first products on top of modern lending platform APIs. The work includes a native broker-facing mobile app, a retail borrower app, and AI-enabled features woven throughout both. You will own the mobile experience from architecture through App Store release.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship native or cross-platform mobile applications (React Native, Flutter, or Swift/Kotlin) for brokers and retail borrowers.
  • Develop a modern loan officer application with role-tailored interfaces that read from and write to the LOS.
  • Integrate AI-enabled features into the user experience: conversational assistance, smart status updates, document capture and review.
  • Own front-end quality: performance, accessibility, offline behavior, push notifications, and app-store release management.
  • Collaborate with designers, product owners, and pilot users and iterate quickly on real feedback.

AI-Assisted Development (Required)

This team builds AI-first. This is not a preference; it is how the team works every day. To be considered, you must:

  • Use AI coding tools daily (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent) as a core part of your workflow, not as occasional autocomplete.
  • Demonstrate the ability to decompose work into well-structured prompts and agentic tasks, then critically review, test, and harden AI-generated code before it ships.
  • Show measurable productivity gains from AI-assisted development and be prepared to walk through real examples in the interview, including a live AI-paired coding exercise.
  • Maintain sound judgment about where AI accelerates work and where human review is mandatory, especially in a regulated lending environment.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional front-end or mobile development with at least one shipped app in production (App Store or Google Play).
  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript plus a mobile framework (React Native or Flutter), or native Swift/Kotlin experience.
  • Experience consuming REST/GraphQL APIs and handling auth, secure storage, and sensitive data on device.
  • Daily, demonstrable use of AI coding tools. This requirement is absolute.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fintech or consumer financial app experience: broker portals, POS systems, LOS-connected apps, or other regulated consumer financial products.
  • Experience with document capture/upload flows, e-sign, and notification-heavy workflows.

Compensation

$130,000 to $160,000 base salary, depending on experience. Full-time, exempt. Santa Ana, CA (hybrid) or fully remote.

  • Benefits: medical, dental, vision, retirement, PTO.
  • Noor Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
  • Physical requirements include standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, with or without accommodation.
