Job description

The Wall Design Technician is responsible for the design and coordination of residential structural systems, including engineered wood products (EWP) and wall panels. This role plays a key part in delivering accurate, efficient, and value-driven design solutions that meet client specifications, building codes, and manufacturing requirements. Working closely with project managers, estimators, production teams, and customers, the Design Technician ensures designs are optimized for constructability, cost-efficiency, and performance.

This position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. The salary for this position will range from $75,000-$85,000 Job Responsibilities: Prepare detailed and accurate design drawings for residential wall systems using specialized design software. Interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings to develop complete and coordinated design solutions.

Ensure all design output delivers value-added solutions, balancing structural integrity, cost efficiency, and constructability. Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and customer requirements. Review and approve designs for accuracy, completeness, and constructability prior to production.

Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior designers and support consistency in design standards. Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and production teams to ensure designs are practical and optimized for manufacturing. Identify opportunities for value-added design solutions, including cost savings, efficiency improvements, and constructability enhancements.

Participate in project meetings, including customer and site meetings as required, to support coordination and successful project execution. Respond to design-related inquiries and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle. Prepare and review bills of materials to ensure accuracy for manufacturing and costing.

Maintain organized and accurate project documentation, including revisions and approvals. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to design processes, tools, and efficiencies. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications: Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field. Minimum 5-8+ years of experience in truss, EWP, or structural design within residential construction. Strong experience designing across multiple systems, including wall panels, floor systems, roof trusses, and EWP.

Advanced proficiency in design software (e.g., MiTek, AutoCAD, or similar platforms). Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and building codes. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects Skills & Competencies: High attention to detail with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

Ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid environment while maintaining strong communication with the team. Strong organizational and time management skills. Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders.
