Location: Greater Hackensack, NJ (Remote/Home-Based)

Join a Company That Helps Shape the World's Best Products

At Instron, we design, manufacture, and support the materials testing systems that engineers rely on to develop safer, stronger, and higher-quality products.

From medical devices and aerospace components to automotive parts, consumer electronics, and packaging, our systems help manufacturers validate the performance of the products people use every day. More than 95% of the world's largest manufacturers trust Instron to provide the critical testing data that drives innovation and quality.

If you enjoy solving technical problems, working independently, and building long-term relationships with customers, we'd like to hear from you.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Field Service Engineer to support customers throughout New Jersey. This is a home-based position where you'll work independently while receiving the support of an experienced technical team.

Every day is different. One day you may be calibrating precision testing equipment, the next installing a new system or troubleshooting a customer's critical production issue. You'll become the trusted technical expert our customers depend on to keep their equipment operating at peak performance.

What You'll Do

  • Travel to customer facilities to perform:

    • Preventive maintenance

    • Equipment calibration

    • Troubleshooting and repairs

    • Installation and commissioning of new systems

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues.

  • Provide customers with technical guidance and hands-on training.

  • Complete accurate service documentation, field reports, and expense reports.

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer satisfaction during every service visit.

  • Follow all company and customer safety procedures.

  • Support customers throughout New Jersey, with occasional travel to other regions as business needs require.

Travel

  • Daily travel throughout New Jersey.

  • Routine overnight travel is approximately 10%, with occasional additional travel outside the region for training, customer support, or special projects.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in candidates who enjoy working with sophisticated equipment and have a passion for troubleshooting complex technical systems.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.

  • Military technical experience or trade school training may be considered in place of a degree.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.

  • Comfortable working with Windows-based computers and technical software.

  • Excellent organization, communication, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Experience That Will Set You Apart

  • Previous field service experience.

  • Preventive or corrective maintenance on electro-mechanical or servo-hydraulic equipment.

  • Experience with materials testing systems.

  • Experience delivering technical training to customers in both hands-on and classroom settings.

  • Industrial automation or controls experience.

Why Instron?

At Instron, you'll work for a global technology leader while enjoying the flexibility and independence of a home-based field position. We invest heavily in technical training and professional development, giving our engineers the tools they need to succeed throughout their careers.

You'll have the opportunity to support leading companies across industries including aerospace, medical devices, automotive, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, and higher education, helping them ensure the safety and quality of the products used around the world.

If you're looking for a challenging role where your technical expertise directly impacts world-class manufacturers, we encourage you to apply.
