The Opportunity

As a Senior Optimization Engineer at Hitachi Energy, you will help develop the software and mathematical models that support real-time and market-based choices across the power system. In this role, you will work at the intersection of power systems, electricity markets, optimization, and software development-designing, building, testing, integrating, and documenting applications that help utilities and market operators run markets efficiently and support reliable grid operations.

You will translate customer requirements into technically sound solutions, apply advanced mathematical modeling and numerical methods, and support software releases while addressing complex technical issues. Your work will contribute to the reliability, performance, and modernization of the grid by enabling smarter market operation, better use of system resources, and stronger alignment with the evolving energy landscape. You will also collaborate with internal teams and customers on projects that connect technical depth with practical results, giving you the opportunity to grow your expertise in power market applications, optimization tools, and energy software in a global environment.

How You'll Make an Impact
  • Analyze customer requirements and propose technically sound solutions for power system and electricity market applications.

Your Background
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in Canada.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electricity markets.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in optimization modeling tools and solvers (AMPL/AIMMS, CPLEX, Gurobi).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with high-level programming languages.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience using Linux or AIX operating systems.
  • Minimum 2 years developing power system application software for electricity markets.
  • Sound written and oral communication skills in English.
