Job Description
The Sciences and Mathematics Department at Texas A&M University-Central Texas (TAMUCT) seeks an applicant to expand the educational and training opportunities necessary to meet the growing needs of industry. In Central Texas and in the Military, drone or remote pilot positions have grown progressively and will continue to grow over the next five years. For this professional track Assistant Lecturer position, specific duties include teaching select courses, in-person, at 10-week intervals starting in Fall 2026. The position offers a unique opportunity to apply real world experience as a lecturer, full-time for 2 years (renewable).
The instructor will teach a variety of Continuing Education Unit (CEU) courses for the Remote Pilot programs, as determined by department needs and individual qualifications. The instructor will be expected to perform the duties regularly expected of an instructor of CEUs including, but not limited to, meeting with their courses as scheduled, face-to-face, supporting student success, holding regular meeting hours in accordance with College of Arts and Sciences policy, submitting syllabi and attendance verification on time, and other duties as assigned.
A Presidential Proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on all new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025, and Texas A&M University-Central Texas will not pay this fee. Additionally, a moratorium issued by Governor Abbott on January 27, 2026, restricts the filing of new H-1B petitions unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. Accordingly, if you will now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status this moratorium may affect our ability to employ you should you be selected as the final candidate. Applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching assigned aviation remote pilot courses in face-to-face and hybrid modalities.
- Developing and maintaining course syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with program objectives and the university standards for CEUs.
- Holding regular office hours in accordance with College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) policy.
- Submitting syllabi, attendance verification, grades, and required reports in a timely manner.
- Advising and mentoring students regarding academic progress, professional development, and career pathways in remote pilot aviation.
- Engaging in curriculum development, course improvement, and program enhancement activities, including alignment with FAA, industry, and institutional standards.
- Maintaining currency in remote pilot aviation knowledge, instructional practices, and industry developments.
- Carry out additional requirements of faculty including conducting learning outcome measures on all courses taught to assist in maintaining accreditation, working with the Department Chair on developing course schedules, attending university and college faculty meetings, serving on university committees as requested or assigned by the Provost, Dean, or Department Chair, providing academic advising to prospective and current students, faculty development, and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned Master of Science (M.S.) or Master of Arts (M.A.) in Aviation, Aerospace, Management, Leadership, Education, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Hold FAA 107 Drone certificate.
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the collegiate level
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge or background in Military training initiatives, military drone flight, munitions, or other related Military field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Substantial remote pilot aviation industry experience, including civil, military, or combined backgrounds in flight operations, management, aviation safety, maintenance, leadership, or unmanned aircraft systems certificates for thermography, or AUVSI, or other certifications.
- Hold an FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII/MEI), Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or other relevant FAA certificates or ratings (e.g., Part 107 Remote Pilot).
- Knowledge of FAA 108 organizational requirements.
- Prior successful teaching experience, including technology enhanced instruction. • Evidence of curriculum or program development, syllabus design, or instructional innovation.
- Engagement in professional practice or scholarly activity, such as industry publications, conference presentations, professional workshops, remote pilot, or FAA/industry training.
- Experience with student advising, mentoring, recruitment, outreach, or community engagement related to education.
- Demonstrated organizational, administrative, and teamwork skills within an academic or operational aviation environment.
