Description
This position directly supports the Coroner and chief deputy Coroner by being a primary death investigator for the office, provide cremation authorizations, and performing other duties as assigned by the Coroner and chief deputy Coroner. This is a per call position. At this time there are no on-call requirements and Deputy Coroner is called on as-needed basis. Hired person(s) will be sent to training for Death investigations.
Examples of Duties
This position includes triaging and screening death notifications from hospitals, hospice agencies, nursing homes and other facilities to determine if the death meets jurisdiction requirements. Responding to death scenes and investigating both natural and non-natural deaths, which includes photographing the scene and decedent, conducting a body examination, interviewing witnesses/family, reviewing medical records, working collaboratively with law enforcement, funeral directors, and medical providers, determining cause and manner of death, and completing a comprehensive case report of all scene and investigative findings.
Qualifications
Must have five years minimum experience in a medical related field. (i.e. Nursing, Paramedic, or Physician's Assistant). Other combinations of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver's license and a driving record that meets county standards.
