COMPENSATION INFORMATION
The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. While we strive to provide competitive and transparent compensation, there may be circumstances where an offer is above or outside of the listed range. We are open to discussing salary expectations with qualified candidates considering factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location will all be considered during the hiring process.
  • Engineer II - Pay Range: $90,000-$99,000
  • Sr. Engineer - Pay Range: $108,000 - $125,000
  • Sr. Engineer II - Range: $125,000 - $138,000
  • Lead Engineer - Pay Range: $138,000-$160,000

Join our team as an Engineer on the Market Monitor team!
The Market Monitor Engineer plays a critical role in evaluating both economic and physical power system operations to support the analysis of the SPP energy and transmission services markets. This position supports the monitoring, detection, and prevention of market power abuse and market manipulation, while ensuring market rules, design, and performance promote efficient and effective outcomes.
The role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. Interaction with real-time operations includes rotating on-call responsibilities. The position also involves engagement with internal stakeholders, market participants, regulatory bodies, and committees across both the SPP Marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze economic and physical power system operations to monitor SPP and congestion hedging markets
  • Identify potential market design issues, market power abuse, and market manipulation through data analysis and reporting
  • Perform power flow and pricing analysis applying economic and operational principles
  • Develop ad hoc analyses, routine reports, and market metrics with minimal supervision
  • Document investigations and studies in clear, well-supported written reports
  • Support market monitoring activities and maintain independence while engaging internal staff, committees, and working groups
  • Provide technical support to management and respond to regulatory inquiries as needed
  • Participate in rotating on-call responsibilities and special projects
  • Collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team while managing multiple priorities

To be successful we're looking for:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, this degree should:

Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation),
Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Engineer II - Two (2) Years of relevant Engineering experience
  • Sr Engineer - Five (5) years of relevant Engineering experience; Professional Engineer License may satisfy one year of experience requirement.
  • Senior Engineer II: Nine (9) years of relevant Engineering experience; Professional Engineer License or Advanced degree in related field of study may satisfy one (1) year of experience requirement. Two (2) years of experience may satisfy both a Professional Engineer License and Advanced degree in related field.
  • Lead Engineer
    • 12 years of relevant Engineering experience; OR
    • 11 years of relevant Engineering experience with a Master's Degree in Electrical, Computer, Industrial, Mechanical or Systems Engineering OR
    • 10 years of relevant Engineering experience with a Doctoral degree in Electrical, Computer, Industrial, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
  • A Professional Engineer license is required for the Lead level role; however, 12 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a Professional Engineer License
  • Proficient at organizing and conducting technical and analytical studies
  • Advanced knowledge of electric market concepts and ability to apply understanding in unique analysis
  • Basic understanding of microeconomics, including the theory of competitive markets
  • Strong interpersonal, team-building, and organizational skills
  • Flexibility and aptitude to function with constantly changing conditions and priorities
  • Ability to support diverse team members and manage complex analysis projects
  • Experience performing analysis using SAS, SQL queries, or another database analytical tool or experience
  • programming in any comparable data-oriented environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of the calculation principles, functionality
  • Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures

Preferred:
  • Registered Professional Engineer License
  • Advanced degree in related field of study
  • Experience in reliability operations, data analysis, power flow analysis, ad hoc reporting

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.
Travel Requirement:
This position requires minimal travel (0-10 %).
