Senior Engineer – Civil/Structural

Location: Mobile, Montgomery, Birmingham AL areas

(Dallas, TX and Little Rock, AR candidates also considered)

Salary: $100,000 to $130,000/year + full benefits

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Hybrid field/office/remote

Travel: ~25% to 30% (short-duration US trips)

The Role

We're seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to support inspections, assessments, and repair design for fixed equipment and industrial infrastructure. This role supports pulp, paper, chemical, and water/wastewater facilities through onsite evaluations, structural engineering analysis, and clear technical reporting.


What You'll Do

  • Conduct structural surveys and evaluations for industrial buildings and infrastructure
  • Assess condition of concrete, FRP, and steel tanks/vessels, including chemical masonry construction
  • Develop designs for structural steel, concrete, and brick/tile systems
  • Investigate corrosion and material-related failures in metallic and non-metallic equipment
  • Analyze equipment condition data and apply engineering codes and best practices
  • Manage small capital projects for fixed equipment improvements
  • Provide QA/QC for new and rehabilitation construction
  • Prepare repair specifications and drawing packages
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, chemical, design, project management)
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation
  • Execute approximately 1,500 billable hours annually
  • Work in field environments including confined spaces, ladders/scaffolding, elevated work areas (50'-125'), and industrial facilities with variable conditions


What You Bring

  • B.S. in Structural or Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of applied engineering experience, obtained either after completing an accredited degree or through demonstrated equivalent professional practice
  • Experience with fixed equipment design, inspection, repairs, and failure modes
  • Ability to analyze condition data and develop engineering recommendations
  • Ability to meet project deadlines within budgeted hours
  • Ability to perform essential field tasks in industrial environments, with safety training and equipment provided
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to prepare clear technical reports and communicate findings to clients and internal teams
  • Physical ability to perform field tasks such as climbing ladders/scaffolding, lifting up to ~50lbs on occasion, using power tools for sample collection, and working at heights or in confined spaces, with reasonable accommodations as needed


Preferred experience includes holding a PE license, working with FRP systems, and having exposure to the pulp and paper industry. Familiarity with SolidWorks, Abaqus, MathCAD, and AutoCAD is beneficial, as is experience with corrosion assessment and fixed-equipment damage mechanisms.
