Join Our Team
KYOCERA SGS Precision Tools is looking for a Technical Sales Engineer to manage and grow our business throughout Eastern Michigan, with a primary focus on the Metro Detroit area. This is a remote, territory-based role where you'll build customer relationships, develop new business, and provide technical support for indexable cutting tool applications.

Our Technical Sales Engineers play an important role in growing KSPT's business by helping manufacturers, OEMs, industrial distributors, and end-user customers find the right indexable cutting tool solutions for their applications while providing the technical expertise needed to support customer success. This role combines:
Technical Sales | Machining Applications | Customer Solutions | Business Development
Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Sales & Business Development: Grow KSPT sales in the Detroit territory through industrial distributors, OEMs, manufacturer's representatives, and end-user customers.
  • Customer Relationships: Develop long-term customer relationships through regular sales calls, lead follow-up, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Tool Application & Technical Support: Evaluate customer applications and manufacturing processes to recommend indexable cutting tool solutions and resolve technical issues.
  • Training & Market Support: Provide technical training to distributors and customers while staying current on machining technologies, manufacturing practices, and industry trends.
  • Sales Planning & Product Development: Support sales forecasting, territory planning, product development, and communicate customer feedback and market opportunities to Sales and Marketing.
  • Documentation & Industry Support: Maintain required sales, trip, and expense documentation; attend trade shows and industry events; and collaborate with internal teams, distributors, representatives, and customers to achieve business goals.

What You Bring
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in sales, marketing, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of technical tooling/machining experience and 2+ years of technical sales or support experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of indexable cutting tools, machining processes, and tooling applications.
  • Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and planning skills.
  • Basic computer and Microsoft application skills; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license is required; must reside within the territory and the ability to travel up to 50% of the year.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Combination of office, customer, distributor, and manufacturing environments.
  • Frequent visits to manufacturing facilities with exposure to machinery, noise, dust, oils, and moving equipment.
  • Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to visually assess tooling samples and finished products.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Extensive travel throughout the assigned territory.
