What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Manual Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Manual Tester, you need a solid understanding of software testing methodologies, attention to detail, and experience with test case creation and execution, often supported by a relevant degree or QA certification. Familiarity with bug tracking systems like Jira, test management tools such as TestRail, and basic knowledge of databases or web technologies is commonly required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills are essential for collaborating with distributed teams and managing tasks independently. These skills ensure accurate defect identification, effective teamwork, and high-quality software releases in a remote work environment.

How does collaboration typically work for remote manual testers within distributed teams?

Remote manual testers often collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and automation testers through virtual meetings, project management tools, and communication platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams. Regular stand-ups and sprint planning sessions help ensure everyone is aligned on testing priorities and timelines. Effective documentation and clear bug reporting are essential, as remote environments rely heavily on written communication to track issues and progress. Being proactive in asking questions and sharing updates helps remote testers stay connected and contribute to team goals.

What is remote manual testing?

Remote manual testing is a software quality assurance process where testers manually execute test cases and report bugs from a location outside of a traditional office environment, typically from home or another remote location. Unlike automated testing, manual testing requires human intervention to verify application functionality, usability, and identify issues that automated scripts might miss. Remote manual testers use collaboration tools, test management platforms, and communication channels to coordinate with development teams and stakeholders. This approach allows for flexibility in work location while ensuring software meets quality standards before release.

What is the difference between Remote Manual Testing vs Remote Automation Testing?

Remote Manual Testing involves executing test cases manually to identify bugs, requiring attention to detail and basic scripting knowledge. Remote Automation Testing focuses on creating and maintaining automated test scripts using specialized tools. Both roles often require similar certifications and are used across various industries, but automation testing is more technical and suited for large-scale, repetitive testing tasks.

Job description

About the Role

Armada is scaling fast-and our internal systems need to scale faster. As Director, Business Systems (M5), you'll own the strategy, architecture, and execution for the core platforms that run the business across Finance, Go-To-Market, Operations, and People.

This is a builder-first leadership role for someone who can connect business process design with modern enterprise SaaS, strong data/integration patterns, and automation (including AI-enabled workflows). You'll create a coherent, secure, and scalable systems backbone that reduces manual work, eliminates data fragmentation, and unlocks better decision-making across the company.

You'll partner closely with leaders across Finance, Revenue/GTM, Ops, People, and Engineering to:

  • establish the business systems roadmap,
  • deliver high-impact implementations and optimizations,
  • and build a high-performing team and operating model that enables Armada to move with speed and discipline.

Location. This role is remote-based on the continental US.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

Business Systems Strategy & Ownership

  • Own the multi-year vision and roadmap for Armada's enterprise application ecosystem (e.g., ERP/Finance, CRM & GTM stack, HRIS, and adjacent tools for billing, procurement, support, and business operations).
  • Run Business Systems like a product: define outcomes, prioritize ruthlessly, and deliver measurable improvements in cycle time, data quality, and user experience.
  • Ensure system design supports clean, auditable processes and reduces operational overhead.

Architecture, Integrations & Data Foundation

  • Define and govern how systems connect-APIs, iPaaS, middleware, data warehouse/lakehouse patterns, and master data management.
  • Partner with data/engineering teams to enable trustworthy reporting and analytics, with clear definitions for core objects (customer, product, asset, subscription, employee, etc.).

Automation & AI-Enabled Workflows

  • Identify opportunities to eliminate manual work with automation (workflows, orchestration, document processing, approvals, self-service).
  • Where appropriate, enable AI-assisted internal workflows (e.g., routing, summarization, exception handling, reconciliation support, employee self-service), while maintaining strong security and governance.

Operational Rigor, Security & Compliance

  • Establish the operating model: intake, prioritization, documentation standards, testing, release/change management, training, and post-launch support.
  • Own system controls: role-based access, audit trails, segregation of duties, and data protection practices.
  • Partner with security/compliance stakeholders to support audits and future readiness (e.g., SOC 2 / SOX-aligned controls as needed).

Vendor & Portfolio Management

  • Manage vendor relationships, contract renewals, tool rationalization, and licensing strategy.
  • Drive cost-effective platform decisions without sacrificing scalability or security.

Team Leadership (M5 Scope)

  • Build and lead a high-impact Business Systems team.
  • Coach and develop the team, set clear expectations, and create a culture of high ownership, strong partnership, and pragmatic execution.

About You (Required Qualifications)

  • 10+ years in Business Systems, Enterprise Applications, or related roles with increasing scope and ownership.
  • Demonstrated experience owning and scaling core systems across multiple functions (Finance, GTM, People, Operations).
  • Strong hands-on understanding of enterprise platforms such as:
    • CRM (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot)
    • ERP/Finance (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle)
    • HRIS/ATS (e.g., Workday, Rippling, Greenhouse)
  • Proven track record delivering cross-functional programs: implementations, integrations, process redesign, and adoption at speed.
  • Solid integration and data fluency (APIs, iPaaS like Workato/Boomi/MuleSoft, data quality concepts, reporting needs).
  • Strong change management instincts: you can bring stakeholders along, drive adoption, and create durable operating habits.
  • Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management-able to translate between business outcomes and technical implementation.

Prederred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting complex operational workflows such as inventory, supply chain, procurement, asset lifecycle, field operations, or other "real-world" operational systems.
  • Experience with GTM tooling such as CPQ, forecasting, sales engagement, territory/planning, or customer success platforms.
  • Familiarity with revenue workflows and controls (e.g., billing, collections, revenue recognition concepts).
  • Comfort prototyping or validating logic using SQL and/or scripting (Python), or partnering deeply with technical teams to do so.
  • Experience implementing security/compliance controls in business systems environments (audit readiness, access governance).
  • Relevant certifications (nice-to-have): Salesforce Admin/Architect, NetSuite, Workday, PMP/Agile, iPaaS platform certs.

Compensation & Benefits

For U.S. Based candidates: To ensure fairness and transparency, the starting base salary range for this role for candidates in the U.S. are listed, varying based on location experience, skills, and qualifications.  In addition to base salary, this role will also be offered equity and subsidized benefits (details available upon request).
