What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Manual Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Manual Tester, you need a solid understanding of software testing methodologies, attention to detail, and experience with test case creation and execution, often supported by a relevant degree or QA certification. Familiarity with bug tracking systems like Jira, test management tools such as TestRail, and basic knowledge of databases or web technologies is commonly required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills are essential for collaborating with distributed teams and managing tasks independently. These skills ensure accurate defect identification, effective teamwork, and high-quality software releases in a remote work environment.

What is remote manual testing?

Remote manual testing is a software quality assurance process where testers manually execute test cases and report bugs from a location outside of a traditional office environment, typically from home or another remote location. Unlike automated testing, manual testing requires human intervention to verify application functionality, usability, and identify issues that automated scripts might miss. Remote manual testers use collaboration tools, test management platforms, and communication channels to coordinate with development teams and stakeholders. This approach allows for flexibility in work location while ensuring software meets quality standards before release.

How does collaboration typically work for remote manual testers within distributed teams?

Remote manual testers often collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and automation testers through virtual meetings, project management tools, and communication platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams. Regular stand-ups and sprint planning sessions help ensure everyone is aligned on testing priorities and timelines. Effective documentation and clear bug reporting are essential, as remote environments rely heavily on written communication to track issues and progress. Being proactive in asking questions and sharing updates helps remote testers stay connected and contribute to team goals.

Job description

BlueInGreen believes that each team member makes a significant contribution to our success. That contribution should not be limited by the assigned responsibilities outlined in a job description. Therefore, this job description is designed to outline the primary duties, qualifications, and scope of the job, but not to limit the employee or the organization to only the work identified. It is our expectation that each team member will offer their services wherever and whenever necessary to ensure the success of our endeavors and to pursue individual career growth.

The Team and the Role

The Customer Service Platform (CSP) team empowers Customer Service to help customers 24x7 resolve issues as they try to stream or sign up. The team creates and supports a maintainable, scalable, and resilient technology ecosystem that blends in-house and vendor solutions. CS Technical Operations (CS TechOps) is a key component of the CSP team.

We are seeking an experienced System Administrator under CS TechOps to develop, configure, and maintain first-party and third-party applications used by the Customer Service organization. This role is responsible for configuring workflows to support business initiatives, monitoring them to ensure optimal performance, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and maintaining resource documentation and training materials so support teams can identify bugs and escalate them to the appropriate teams.

This is a fully remote, US-only, hourly W2 position with benefits. Candidates will be employed by BlueInGreen, paid hourly through BlueInGreen payroll, and assigned to support a confidential enterprise client. Long-term extension or potential conversion may be possible based on performance, business needs, and client approval, but is not guaranteed.

The hourly rate is negotiable based on skillset, experience, and overall fit for the role.

Benefits

As a W2 employee of BlueInGreen, you will be eligible for benefits. Benefits may include health coverage, dental, vision, paid time off or paid sick leave where applicable, and additional employee perks based on eligibility and assignment details. Full benefits information will be provided during the hiring process.

Core Responsibilities

System Configuration and Administration

Develop new and maintain existing workflows and system configurations within our CS Products suite, including first-party and third-party solutions such as Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS), CRM, helpdesk, and telephony providers (TFN).

Create comprehensive documentation for managed software configurations, procedures, and changes to ensure consistency and facilitate troubleshooting.

Efficiently handle access and change requests per aligned priority; respond to internal support channel requests and ensure SLAs are met.

Maintain deep knowledge of CS tools to operate effectively as an administrator.

Quality Assurance

Define clear QA acceptance criteria.

Perform manual testing against existing or newly developed workflows.

Collaborate with QA specialists on test planning and execution, and progressively shift testing toward automation and GenAI-assisted test coverage to reduce manual overhead over time.

Maintain accountability for test coverage quality even if QA execution is delegated.

Partnership

Partner with CS Product, CS Operations, and CS Engineering to ensure proper setup of systems and workflows across internal and external tools.

Partner closely with CS Product to understand configuration requirements and identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.

Troubleshoot and resolve configuration issues; escalate bugs to the appropriate support teams.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience as a system administrator in the Customer Service/Contact Center domain, including CCaaS (e.g., IVR, routing, TFN), CRM, user access management, CMS, helpdesk, and telephony systems.

Hands-on system administration experience with Customer Service technology stack software such as Sprinklr, Genesys/Zendesk, Twilio, or Lumen is a strong plus.

Demonstrated proficiency with Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, Kibana, Tableau, Slack, and other productivity tools such as Claude Cowork.

Experience with structured change management practices, including maintaining change logs, executing staged rollouts, and preparing rollback plans.

Effective collaborator and communicator with partners and stakeholders across all technical levels.

Experience operating in an always-on, 24x7 environment, including on-call responsibilities, SLA pressure, and incident response, is a strong differentiator.

Employment Requirements

Must be located in the United States and perform work from within the United States.

Must be eligible to work as a direct hourly W2 employee of BlueInGreen.

Direct applicants only; no recruiting agencies, third-party vendors, employer-of-record arrangements, or corp-to-corp submissions.

Must be able to complete Form I-9 employment eligibility verification if hired.

Must be willing to complete a background check, subject to applicable law and required candidate authorization.

Must understand this is an hourly W-2 contract role with benefits, and an extension or full-time conversion may be possible but is not guaranteed.

Equal Opportunity

BlueInGreen is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and candidates.
